Position Description This posting will be used to fill a Full Time, Represented, Planning Technician II position located in the Development Division of the Office of Planning and Zoning. This vacancy is on the Residential Team, which is responsible for the project management and review of site development plans and subdivisions; planned unit developments; grading and building permits; and variance/special exception reviews proposed for residential, institutional and County projects. The Planning Technician II is responsible for the review of amended plats, minor subdivision, permit and zoning applications. These duties include the processing of legal documents and associated fees and requires a thorough understanding of the Anne Arundel County Code as it relates to these applications. This position interacts with the development community and citizens on a daily basis. Excellent customer service experience and the ability to communicate effectively is essential. Nature and variety of work The nature of this work involves frequent contact with developers and property owners in explaining Code objectives and requirements and in advising them of needed changes to application products. This work follows established policies and procedures, and is evaluated through observation and review of recommendations and reports or other work products. Responsibilities

In controlling subdivision submittals: accepts, reviews for adherence to standards, distributes, and maintains computerized control of progress in multi-agency evaluations of subdivision proposals; logs in submittals, fees, correspondence, and findings of reviewing agencies; accepts and similarly processes waiver requests related to subdivisions and flood plan controls; responds to status inquiries from within the County government and from owners, developers, and their representatives. In street name and building numbering assignment control: develops and maintains basic records and maps of street names and building numbers; identifies patterns of street names and premise addresses requiring changes in order to diminish confusion and improve orderliness; develops plans for changes; meets with subdividers and property owners regarding these matters and seeks concurrence in needed changes; keeps interested public and private agencies informed of changes; develops procedures for effecting needed and agreed changes. Performs related work as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of the geography of the County and applicable laws and regulations governing the area of the assignment. Thorough knowledge of the general objectives and methods of planning and land use regulations. Thorough knowledge of established policies and procedures in the area of assignment. Skill in interpreting plans, drawings, and diagrams. Ability to establish and maintain a complex system of records and reports. Ability to read and interpret maps and subdivision plats. Ability to write and speak effectively. Ability to maintain effective work relationships with the public, property owners, subdividers, and their representatives. Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school; two (2) or more years of experience in planning, subdivision control, and zoning enforcement work; and a valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license. NOTE: Longevity pay is available based on years of service. Supplemental Qualifications
