Core responsibilities

• Blood collection:

  Perform venous and capillary blood draws on patients of all ages.

• Patient interaction:

  Explain the blood draw process, address patient concerns, and help those who are nervous about needles.

• Sample management:

  Accurately label blood and other samples, ensure they meet specimen requirements, and prepare them for laboratory testing.

• Safety and sanitation:

  Maintain a clean and sanitary work area, sterilize equipment, and follow all safety protocols, including using personal protective equipment (PPE).

• Record keeping:

  Enter patient information into databases, maintain accurate medical records, and handle laboratory requisitions.

Additional duties

• Take patient vital signs, such as pulse and blood pressure.
• Assist patients who experience adverse reactions to blood draws.
• Manage inventory of phlebotomy supplies and ensure adequate stock.
• Collect other specimens like urine.
• Coordinate with laboratory staff and other healthcare providers.
