Job Summary:

The Storage and Backup Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and lifecycle management of enterprise storage and backup infrastructure. This role ensures business-critical data remains available, secure, and recoverable across on-premises, hybrid, and cloud environments. The ideal candidate will have in-depth hands‑on expertise in SAN/NAS systems, enterprise backup platforms, data retention policies, disaster recovery, and storage performance tuning—preferably within medium to large enterprises.

Key Responsibilities:

Design, deploy, and manage enterprise SAN and NAS solutions (e.g., NetApp, Dell EMC, HPE 3PAR, Pure Storage, Hitachi).

Manage zoning, LUN provisioning, replication, deduplication, and snapshot strategies.

Monitor storage performance and capacity utilization; implement storage tiering strategies as needed.

Perform storage system firmware and software upgrades in coordination with vendors and change control.

Administer enterprise backup solutions (e.g., Commvault, Veeam, Veritas NetBackup, Dell EMC DataDomain/Avamar, Rubrik, Cohesity).

Develop and maintain backup schedules, retention policies, and offsite replication (including air‑gapped or cloud backups).

Perform regular recovery tests and participate in disaster recovery (DR) drills.

Implement backup encryption, ransomware protection, and immutability features as per policy.

Provide L2/L3 support for incidents, performance issues, and service requests related to storage and backup systems.

Automate backup and storage tasks using scripts (PowerShell, Bash, or Python).

Maintain accurate documentation and run books.

Collaborate with database, virtualization, and other infrastructure teams to ensure end‑to‑end data protection.

Consistently adhere to all company policies and standards, including, but not limited to, those contained in the Employee Handbook and Code of Conduct.

Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, while fostering a positive work environment through active listening.

Seek to improve existing procedures in order to increase productivity and/or revenue.

Demonstrate sound judgment and problem‑solving skills while adapting effectively to change.

Organize and plan workloads, develop realistic action plans to achieve objectives, and display commitment to individual, departmental, and company objectives.

When serving in a supervisory capacity, ensure consistent enforcement of company policies, including, but not limited to, those outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Qualifications

Required:

High School Diploma

Bachelor’s Degree

Minimum 10 years IT‑related work experience

Proficiency with:

Operating Systems: Windows and Unix servers

Backup platforms: Dell EMC Networker, Commvault, Avamar, and DataDomain

Backup and replication technologies

Disaster recovery strategies

Familiarity with:

Active Directory/LDAP

Backup and Recovery

LAN/WAN, MPLS, and VPN network concepts

Load balancers

Enterprise Applications

Citrix

Emerging Cloud technologies

Computer Skills: Microsoft Windows, MS Office

Strong knowledge of computer hardware, desktop operating systems, and diagnostic utilities

Proven ability to troubleshoot, research, and resolve a wide range of technical issues

Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and documentation skills with keen attention to detail

Ability to present technical information in user‑friendly language to non‑technical staff

Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating technical support teams

Strong relationship management skills and ability to work collaboratively in team‑oriented environments

Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in high‑pressure environments while quickly absorbing and retaining information

Ability to constantly operate a computer/keyboard and other office machinery such as a printer, copier, calculator, etc.

Fluency in written and verbal English

Ability to travel 5% of the time

Preferred:

Minimum 2 years logistics experience

Certifications in the above listed technologies
