Pay Range U.S. Customs and Border Protection provided pay range: $96,147.00/yr - $148,633.00/yr (GS-12 to GS-13). Your actual pay will be based on skills and experience.
Duties
Conduct all types of polygraph examinations in support of OPR and other CBP divisions, other DHS components, and outside agencies.
Coordinate, plan, and administer polygraph examinations.
Conduct pre‑test interviews to determine willingness and capability to submit to examination.
Evaluate physical and psychological suitability for testing to make final determination.
Prepare accurate, concise, logical, comprehensive, and objective reports for legal venues, including potential court testimony.
Conduct extended testing to resolve undecided issues, confirm admissions, or locate evidence as necessary.
Requirements
U.S. Citizen. Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with Selective Service.
Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.
All pre‑employment processes will be conducted in English.
Potential background investigation and polygraph.
Drug testing per DHS Drug‑Free Workplace Plan.
Compliance with CBP ethics, conflict‑of‑interest, and criminal statutes.
Participation in E‑Verify and Financial Disclosure.
Qualifications
GS‑12 Grade:
1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in polygraph techniques, physiological data analysis, interrogations, evidence identification, and report preparation.
GS‑13 Grade:
1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level with added responsibilities in adapting polygraph techniques, evidence collection, and advanced interview techniques.
Basic Requirements:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; at least two years of investigative experience with a recognized U.S. Government agency or other law‑enforcement agency; successful completion of a PDD polygraph examination; age at least 25. Transcripts required if certification cannot be supplied.
Additional Information
Background investigation required; questions on criminal convictions, drug use, controlled substances.
Polygraph exam may be required for non‑existing CBP employees in law‑enforcement positions.
Residency requirement: at least three of the last five years in the U.S.; waiver possible under specific conditions.
Probationary period: one year for new federal employees.
CTAP/ICTAP eligibility: minimum score 85 and supporting documents.

No federal law‑enforcement retirement coverage.
