Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supports and promotes safe practices and environmental commitments in alignment with company policies and compliance requirements.
Conducts pre‑operational risk assessments on new sites, designs, and proposals and implements risk mitigation measures.
Manages and mentors a team of health and safety professionals within the region.
Creates a positive partnership with Facility Leadership and serves as point of contact for safety‑related matters while ensuring safe work practices.
Conducts regular site audits and inspections to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and recommend corrective actions; follows up to ensure implementation.
Represents DSV with OSHA, EPA, FDA, and other State and Federal regulatory agencies and addresses any issues arising at the site level.
Fosters teamwork and pride in the company safety program.
Ensures compliance with local Health, Safety & Environmental laws and customer‑specific requirements, including:
PIT Certification
First Aid/Bloodborne Pathogen
Emergency Action Plan
Fire Prevention
Life Safety
Hazard Communication
LockOut/TagOut (LOTO)
Fall Protection
Site inspections (Fire Protection Systems, Fire Extinguishers, Emergency Exit Lighting, etc.)
Other OSHA required training as identified
Federal, State, or Local required reporting such as EPA, STEERS, Tier II, etc.
Assists in coordinating investigations of incidents or HSE complaints, reviews accidents and near‑miss incidents, and recommends corrective actions.
Co‑ordinates with site safety managers to align HSE system plans with Quality Management Systems policies and procedures.
Ensures implementation of emergency procedures (EAP & BCP).
Coordinates and delivers regional HSE training as required.
Ensures all sites risk registers are up to date, including:
Routine / Non‑routine risks
Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
Risk Assessments
Assists in publishing the year‑end OSHA 300 log for the applicable regions.
Assists in completing OSHA surveys.
Assists in the administration of Workers’ Compensation.
Prepares and maintains documents outlining procedures for proper storage and handling of hazardous materials at all facilities.
Applies current EPA and DOT regulations, including HAZWOPER and Hazardous Communication training.
Oversees transportation of hazardous materials in compliance with EPA, DOT/PHMSA, IMDG, and IATA regulations.
Develops and implements a proper training regimen for employees on shipping, handling, and storage of hazardous materials.
Education & Experience
Minimum 5 years of experience in a medium to large warehouse or manufacturing facility in a HSE management capacity supervising 2 or more employees.
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Extensive knowledge of health and safety regulations and standards in the United States.
Proven track record of developing and implementing effective health and safety programs that drive tangible improvements.
Professional certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist), or equivalent highly desirable.
Computer Skills
Strong computer skills, proficient in MS Office Applications.
Certificates & Licenses NA
Language Skills
English (reading, writing, and verbal) required.
Bilingual preferred.
Mathematical Skills
Intermediate skills and functional use of spreadsheets to develop trends and track responses to safety programs.
Other Skills
Excellent training skills.
Good communication, supervisory, and people skills essential.
Strong analytical skills to interpret data, identify trends, and make data‑driven decisions.
