Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Travel Position Location: Asheville, NC Job Type: Travel Contract Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 3×12 Days Pay: $2,080.80/week (plus $2,450 completion bonus per contract, up to $7,350 after three contracts) Position Summary ATC Healthcare is seeking an experienced Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse (RN) for a travel assignment in Asheville, North Carolina. The RN will join the Cardiovascular Progressive Care (CVPC) team, specializing in the care of cardiac and vascular surgery patients, including post–open heart and thoracic procedures. This role requires strong clinical judgment, telemetry proficiency, and the ability to manage complex post-surgical and cardiac conditions in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Deliver high-quality nursing care for patients recovering from cardiovascular and thoracic surgeries, including CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, lobectomy, AAA repair, and fem-pop bypass. Monitor and interpret telemetry and cardiac rhythms, assessing for changes and responding promptly to emergent conditions. Manage IV infusions and cardiac drips such as phenylephrine, dopamine, milrinone, dobutamine, amiodarone, and insulin. Care for patients with chest tubes, epidurals, and feeding tubes, ensuring proper maintenance and monitoring. Perform glucose management using Glucommander protocols and document accurately in Cerner EMR. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team including physicians, respiratory therapists, and patient care technicians to optimize outcomes. Float as needed to Stepdown (1:5 ratio), MedSurg (1:6–7 ratio), or ER inpatient holding (1:6) units. Maintain infection control standards and ensure compliance with hospital safety protocols. Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling, including rotating weekends and holidays as assigned. Qualifications Active North Carolina RN license or Compact State RN license (required). Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (BSN preferred). Minimum of 2 years of recent PCU or Stepdown experience (required). Required Certifications (AHA):
BLS (Basic Life Support) ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
Preferred Certifications: NIHSS (Stroke Certification). Strong background in telemetry and cardiovascular patient management. Prior experience with open heart or vascular surgery populations (preferred). Proficiency with Cerner EMR (preferred). COVID-19 and flu vaccination per facility policy (medical/religious exemptions allowed). Proof of recent tuberculosis (TB) test required.
