About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced Pharmacist for a 5-month contract opportunity in Houston, TX. This role will begin on November 24, 2025, and offers one of three available shifts: 7:00am–5:30pm, 8:00am–6:30pm, or 11:00am–9:30pm.
This position provides coverage for a leave of absence and offers the opportunity to contribute directly to high-quality patient care in a hospital setting. Working within the Hospital & Health Care / Pharmaceutical environment, you’ll be part of an inpatient pharmacy team dedicated to promoting safe and effective pharmaceutical care.
As a key member of the team, you’ll manage the medication process, identify and prevent potential drug-related problems, and ensure the highest standards of medication safety and accuracy for patients across all age groups.
Key Duties and Responsibilities Promote pharmaceutical care by managing the medication process, identifying and preventing potential drug-related problems, and resolving actual drug-related issues. Ensure the appropriateness of all medication doses based on patient diagnosis, weight/body surface area, allergies, and potential drug interactions. Accurately enter and verify medication orders in the computer system. Verify that patients receive the correct medications and doses, with no dispensing errors. Process medication orders and ensure timely delivery of doses in accordance with established guidelines and standards. Follow aseptic technique and infection control procedures in the preparation of sterile products; ensure all pharmacy staff adhere to these standards. Maintain investigational drug records per departmental policy. Contribute to the overall medication management process, ensuring compliance, safety, and quality. Conduct discharge medication reviews, ensuring prescription accuracy and that patients/caregivers fully understand their therapies. Participate in study initiation, maintenance, and closure for clinical or investigational drugs. Support patient safety systems and continuous quality improvement efforts. Ensure smooth daily pharmacy operations and serve as a professional role model for technicians and other pharmacists.
Required Skills and Competencies Strong ability to assess medication appropriateness based on patient-specific factors (diagnosis, weight/BSA, allergies, interactions). Accuracy and attention to detail in entering and verifying medication orders. Proficiency in aseptic technique and infection control in sterile product preparation. Ability to maintain compliance with hospital medication safety and delivery standards. Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills. Commitment to professional conduct and continuous improvement in pharmacy operations.
Qualifications Bachelor’s or Pharm.D. degree in Pharmacy Active RPh license in the state of Texas 2+ years of hospital staff pharmacist experience
or
5+ years of high-volume retail pharmacist experience 20 hours of ACPE- or ASHP-accredited training in compounding sterile products Strong knowledge of aseptic technique, medication safety, and clinical pharmacy operations
