Overview
The position is responsible for providing safety and security throughout the campus. Patrol Officer First Class handles calls for service and law enforcement while maintaining a constant visible patrol presence throughout the campus. The role emphasizes exceptional job knowledge, bearing, dress, courtesy and emotional control; cultural and campus community sensitivity; and a willingness to accept responsibility. The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position represents the full range of anticipated compensation: $27.73/hour. Responsibilities
Patrol in assigned areas on campus, secure and permit access to buildings, respond to requests for police service, and effect the arrest of offenders when appropriate. Be courteous and orderly in dealings with the university community and the public. Prepare police reports and written responses to inquiries concerning the performance of duties and other job-related forms. Focus on crime prevention and investigation, safety education, and emergency preparedness, response, and recovery during patrol. Possess a working knowledge of the laws of the District of Columbia about enforcing laws and protecting life and property. Conduct investigations of criminal and non-criminal activities on University property. Conduct investigations of vehicle accidents on University property. Investigate complaints of sick or injured persons on campus. Serve as Acting Sergeant in the absence of the shift supervisor on a limited as-needed basis, providing appropriate supervision and guidance to assigned members. Safeguard all property coming into possession per university and departmental guidelines. Serve as the primary training officer for probationary officers. Respond to emergencies, alarm breaks, and fire alarms as directed. Note and report items needing attention such as broken windows, lights out, etc. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Formal Education: High School or G.E.D. Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certification Must obtain a Special Police commission in the District of Columbia Must be capable of carrying out police-related tasks Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing Must be a U.S. citizen Possession of a current and valid U.S. driver\'s license appropriate to the type of university vehicle and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Driving Record (MVR) Annual clearance of MVR checks through the Office of Environmental Health and Safety Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Needed: The ability to drive a vehicle (campus or non-campus) on behalf of university business Employment details
