The American Heart Association seeks a Development Director for the Bay Area Division based in Oakland, California. This hybrid position operates where it is most effective – in the field, at home, and in the Oakland office. The role focuses on generating revenue for the Heart Ball fundraising campaign, including our signature Heart Ball gala event.

The position offers a base salary with incentive potential up to 25% of base pay, based on revenue targets and triggers. The Association provides resources to support work-life harmonization, training, and local support through Heart U and additional programs.

Responsibilities

Generate revenue by prospecting and securing local corporate sponsorships and individual donations; achieve revenue goals by building and maintaining relationships with corporate partners and donors.

Build and maintain a pipeline of prospective corporate sponsors and donors by conducting research aligned with campaign goals and the Association’s mission.

Develop and present proposals and accompanying materials to secure revenue and volunteer engagement.

Recruit and manage executive volunteer leadership, volunteer committees, and day-of-the-event volunteers.

Coordinate the event auction, leading a committee of volunteers to solicit auction items and prepare packages to raise funds.

Lead and engage new individual membership for the Cor Vitae giving society, planning and implementing regular engagement events for members.

Plan and implement events in collaboration with internal and external partners.

Collaborate with a Communications Director to support and promote campaign communication plans.

Qualifications

3 years of relevant experience in fundraising, sales, or related fields.

University/College degree or equivalent experience.

Ability to travel locally daily and some overnight trips; reliable transportation is required.

Ability to lift/move large objects (e.g., boxes) with appropriate safety practices and assistance as needed.

Basic knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Preferred experience and skills

Experience managing and cultivating high-level leaders at the C-Suite level.

Knowledge of corporate and community networks.

Compensation & Benefits Expected pay range: $71,600 to $88,000 annually. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials may apply. The Association reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range.
