Responsibilities
Oversee the daily operations for library facilities, monitor building conditions, generate work orders, manage vendor relationships, and respond to facilities requests.
Report to the Associate University Librarian for Collections and Operations and work with BU Facilities Area Managers to ensure operation and maintenance of essential building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, elevators) and compliance with safety codes and regulations.
Liaise with library units including Business Services and Library Administration; participate in project teams and coordinate activities of trades, vendors, and contractors.
Serve as a critical member of the Libraries Emergency Response Team (LERT) for emergencies, environmental disruptions, and time-sensitive issues at all library locations and branches.
Contribute to planning, design, and execution of facility improvements and renovations; supervise the library’s mailroom operations.
Supervise the library mailroom staff (one full-time employee).
Coordinate facilities planning with Library Administration, forecast facilities needs, and contribute to remodels and relocation projects; manage space configuration and utilization.
Participate in emergency preparedness planning and response; ensure proper emergency/evacuation procedures are followed and deliver emergency response training; assist with documentation after emergencies.
Manage building access control and coordinate with BU Security; address safety concerns for staff and visitors and liaise with Campus Planning and Operations and external contractors.
Required Skills
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent related experience.
3-5 years of experience in facilities management, with knowledge of building systems (HVAC, lighting, plumbing, electrical).
Ability to read blueprints and mechanical drawings.
Previous project management experience.
Experience analyzing facilities problems and developing solutions.
Ability to prioritize effectively and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Familiarity with safety regulations and building codes to ensure safety of staff and patrons.
Effective communication with staff, students, campus trades, and external contractors.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Academic library or university facilities management experience.
Experience in supervision and training.
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and complete construction and facilities projects.
