As the leader of the health care team, provides professional nursing care, utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established standards of care, policies, and procedures. Demonstrates performance consistent with the Medical Center Vision, Mission, and Strategic Plan of the organization. Remains flexible to changing systems; is expected to demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice; and treats co-workers, patients, families, and all members of the health care team with dignity and respect. Responsibilities
Leadership: Upholds Kaiser Permanente’s Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and applicable state, federal and local laws. Serves as a leader of the health care team; delegates tasks appropriately, and demonstrates accountability. Understands scope of practice for self and team members and escalates issues as appropriate. Champions new ideas. Leads and directs others through the change process. Utilizes communication strategies including chain of command and issue escalation. Participates in problem identification and resolution. Mentors, orients, and coaches others in unit operations and patient care activities. Shares responsibility and authority with subordinates and holds team members accountable for performance. Demonstrates ability to problem solve with other departments to assist member problem resolution. Prioritizes, delegates, and supervises work assignments to ensure completion of patient care activities. Complies with regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and standards of practice. Nursing Process: Develops and contributes to the individualized plan of care reflecting assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating outcomes. Ensures multidisciplinary planning, consultation, and education; plans reflect admission or outpatient data, age-appropriate and culturally sensitive care, and appropriate acuity. Ensures plans are discussed with patient and family, completed in a timely manner, and monitored for progress with ongoing revisions as needed. Ensures care meets standards of practice and supports discharge planning and patient education. Ensures patient safety in medications and procedures, pain control, and clear patient understanding of discharge instructions. Patient Care Experience: Practices customer service standards; promptly answers call lights, alarms, and patient requests. Makes appropriate referrals, protects patient confidentiality, maintains a clean and functional work environment, treats families with courtesy and compassion, and actively listens to meet patient and family needs. Provides information in an understandable way and strives to exceed patient expectations. Team Commitment: Works effectively as a team member, handles conflicts constructively, takes accountability, acts as a resource and mentor to staff, and participates in mandatory meetings and ongoing professional development. Supports a collaborative Labor-Management Partnership and unit-based teamwork. Fiscal Responsibility: Organizes work to minimize overtime and identifies opportunities for systems improvement; utilizes payroll and non-payroll resources efficiently. Experience
Basic Qualifications: 6 months (within the last 5 years) of full-time equivalent experience in ED or Critical Care, or successful completion of a Kaiser Permanente ED training program or approved equivalent within the prior 12 months. If inexperienced, possible consideration for RN/IPs with a BRN-approved RN program and at least 768 hours of supervised RN student clinical training. Applicants must successfully complete Kaiser Permanente Nursing Orientation Program. Inpatient (IP) applicants must obtain RN license within 3 months of hire. Education: Please refer to Minimum Education section for full qualifications. Experienced RNs: minimum of one year full-time equivalent RN experience in past three years in the clinical area of hire. If considering inexperienced RNs, Kaiser Permanente may consider additional training options as applicable. RN/IPs: new graduates and experienced RNs not meeting above requirements may be considered if they are BRN-approved and have completed required supervised clinical training hours.
