Job Summary
As the leader of the health care team, provides professional nursing care, utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established standards of care, policies, and procedures. Demonstrates performance consistent with the Medical Center Vision, Mission, and Strategic Plan of the organization. The Registered Nurse demonstrates proficiency by exhibiting the following skills, competencies, and behaviors: Leadership: Upholds Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and applicable state, federal and local laws. Serves as a leader of the health care team; delegates tasks appropriately, and demonstrates accountability. Understands scope of practice for self and team members and escalates issues as appropriate. Champions new ideas. Leads and directs others through change. Uses communication strategies including chain of command and issue escalation to achieve outcomes. Participates in problem identification and resolution. Mentors, orients, and coaches others in unit operations and patient care. Shares responsibility and authority with subordinates and holds them accountable for performance. Problemsolve with other departments to resolve member issues. Prioritizes, delegates, and supervises work assignments to ensure completion of patient care activities. Complies with regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and standards of practice. Nursing Process: Develops and contributes to the individualized plan of care reflecting assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating outcomes. Ensures plan includes multidisciplinary planning, consultation, and education. Ensures plan reflects admission or outpatient data, ongoing findings, age-appropriate care, cultural needs, and appropriate acuity. Ensures timely discussion with patient and family/significant other and completion of the plan. Monitors progress and revises the plan as patient condition evolves. Ensures care meets standards of practice. Develops and completes discharge planning including addressing barriers and patient/family education. Ensures patient understands discharge instructions. Ensures patient safety related to medications and procedures (five rights), falls prevention, decubitus prevention, and infection prevention. Manages pain control and addresses patient anxieties or concerns. Ensures patient understanding of medication purpose, side effects, and administration at hospital discharge and beyond. Patient Care Experience: Practices customer service standards defined by the Service Area, Medical Center, and department. Responds promptly to call lights, alarms, and patient requests. Makes appropriate referrals and helps patients/families access resources. Maintains patient confidentiality. Ensures a clean, orderly, and functional work environment. Treats patients and families with courtesy, respect, kindness, and compassion. Listens to patient and family needs and ensures understanding of information provided; delivers a care experience that aims to exceed expectations. Team Commitment: Works as an effective team member, is flexible and cooperative, and assists others. Manages conflicts constructively, accepts feedback, and acts as a resource, preceptor, and mentor to staff and students. Attends mandatory meetings and participates in professional development. Proactively evaluates unit learning needs and contributes to annual education planning. Maintains attendance and supports a collaborative Labor-Management Partnership. Fiscal Responsibility: Organizes work to minimize overtime and supports system improvements for simplification or correction. Uses payroll and non-payroll resources efficiently. Basic Qualifications
6 months (within the last 5 years) of full-time equivalent experience in ED or Critical Care, or successful completion of Kaiser Permanente ED training or an approved equivalent within the prior 12 months. If inexperienced, and KP training is completed, candidates may include RN/IPs – new graduates or experienced RNs not meeting above requirements: graduate of a BRN-approved RN program with 768 hours of supervised RN student clinical training. Applicants must successfully complete Kaiser Permanente Nursing Orientation Program. IP applicants must obtain RN license within 3 months of hire. Education

If an inexperienced RN is considered, KP training program will be reviewed as applicable. RN/IPs – new graduates or experienced RNs not meeting above requirements: graduate of BRN-approved RN program and 917 hours of supervised RN student clinical training, or for LVN applicants, minimum one year of LVN experience in the clinical area of RN hire within the past three years or within a defined equivalent.
