Position summary: The Research Nurse for the Cancer Center Clinical Trials Department is responsible for protocol management reviews for active and potential protocols. This includes determining patient eligibility for protocol participation by chart review, data collection, and patient evaluation/assessment. The Research Nurse is also responsible for reporting all adverse drug reactions to the FDA, NCI, oncology cooperative groups, IRB, and sponsoring drug companies. The role includes educating patients and staff about the research process and investigational cancer drugs.

Duties

Overall study management from study startup to study closure for internally and externally funded trials, including site selection, pre-screening and screening of potential patients, working with study monitors during monitoring visits, identifying and reporting deviations, SAEs and AEs, and scheduling patients.

Chart reviews/data collection to determine patient eligibility for protocol participation by reviewing medical records, surgical and pathology reports as needed.

Meet with potential patients to educate them about potential studies and perform the consenting process if they agree to participate in a research study.

Develop work orders to reflect procedures indicated within the study protocol schedule of events.

Document all research-related data (screening notes, AE logs, concomitant medications, etc.) and enter necessary information into the Clinical Trial Management System (CTMS).

Assist with organizing and attending monthly disease-focused research meetings with physicians to discuss ongoing studies.

Attend tumor board conferences, participate in hospital grand rounds and staff meetings as needed.

Update study schemas to reflect the current study portfolio.

Assist with onboarding of new team members and/or attend interviews for potential new hires as needed.

Communicate with study sponsors/CROs via email and phone.

Work closely with other departments within Stony Brook (radiology, pathology, infusion, etc.).

Collaborate with Research Assistants to ensure samples are collected and processed as described in the study protocol/lab manual.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited school. Current and active NYS RN License. At least 2 years of nursing experience in a clinical setting. Computer literacy.

Preferred Qualifications

Oncology/Chemotherapy experience. Research experience coordinating clinical trials and IRB training.

Requirements prior to start

Successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services.

Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references.

Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen.

Meet regulatory requirements for pre-employment screenings.

Provide copies of any required New York State licenses/certifications.

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

Anticipated Pay Range: The salary range for this position is

$89,760 - $127,975

per year. This range is a good faith estimate of the compensation range at posting. The specific offer will be based on validated experience. Some positions offer location pay for UUP full-time positions ($4,000).
