Position Summary The Assistant Director is responsible for developing and supporting programs that connect students, faculty, staff, and alumni to the greater community. The role ensures that the Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement serves as the nexus for community‑based initiatives and civically‑engaged learning at UNC Greensboro.
Minimum Qualifications
Relevant master’s degree with a minimum of two years of directly related full‑time professional experience, or equivalent combination of relevant undergraduate degree and directly related full‑time professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree with a minimum of five years of directly related full‑time professional experience, or equivalent.
Demonstrated expertise working with diverse populations.
Demonstrated expertise in engaged pedagogies at the university level and in student leadership development.
Demonstrated expertise in leadership development, community/volunteer service, service‑learning, civic learning, democratic engagement, and/or social justice.
Exemplary oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated expertise in managing staff, budgets, program planning and evaluation.
Demonstrated expertise in assessing program outcomes and student learning.
High energy, excellent follow‑through, commitment to collaborative and inclusive work.
Key Responsibilities
Supervision
Supervise two Graduate Assistants for Civic Engagement.
Supervise the building and implementation of civic and community engagement programs and pathways for co‑curricular student learning and development.
Recruit, train, and provide supervision for OLCE student employees.
Service Programming
Develop and build on existing programs such as the Volunteer and Service‑Learning Fair and Community Partner events.
Develop and implement an election engagement plan for campus and stay up to date with voter engagement best practices.
Provide leadership for civic engagement initiatives and networks, oversee the NASPA Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement Lead membership and serve as liaison for North Carolina Campus Compact.
Manage OLCE vans for service use by campus partners.
Community Partnerships
Identify and maintain community partnerships with public and non‑profit agencies to develop civic and service opportunities for students.
Conduct robust assessments and prepare evaluative summary data on programmatic initiatives for semester and annual reports based on community impact from community‑based learning.
General Support
Support and participate in related departmental, divisional, and institutional programs.
Demonstrate commitment to Student Affairs through participation in national associations, conferences, and other professional development opportunities.
Participate on campus‑wide committees and other collaborative initiatives that increase student involvement and development.
