Primary Purpose of Department: The Department of Public Health and Health Administration is committed to excellence in research and teaching, building a diverse faculty and staff, and extending educational opportunities to students from all backgrounds. The department mission is to advance health by fostering innovative teaching and learning, generating evidence-based research, and engaging communities in meaningful ways. The unit offers CEPH-accredited programs (BSPH, MPH, PhD) and CAHME-accredited MHA with dual degrees. The unit is a member of the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for the daily operation of the department and its programs. The Department Chair/Director will promote excellence in departmental programs and provide strategic leadership. Key responsibilities include:

Communicate, collaborate and engage with faculty, staff, advisory board members, and students in the development and implementation of long-term strategic plans.

Advance research and pedagogy initiatives through recruitment and support of faculty.

Identify new funding opportunities and increase national recognition through engagement with government agencies, alumni, community organizations, and external stakeholders.

Ensure student success and retention through curriculum evaluation and innovation.

Oversee daily departmental operations including budget, resource management, personnel supervision, and compliance.

Develop strategies to broaden participation and increase enrollment in graduate and undergraduate programs.

Support staff professional development.

Teach courses in related areas at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Participate in services for the public, profession, and other Department and University activities.

Conduct research and disseminate scholarly work in relevant fields.

Minimum Experience / Education Earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. Must be eligible for appointment as Professor with tenure.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience Previous administrative or academic leadership experience, particularly with accreditation through CEPH or CAHME. Master of Public Health (MPH) degree preferred.
