Overview
The School District of Lee County is seeking a Director, Capital Planning & Maintenance at our District office in Fort Myers, FL. This position will have knowledge of multi-site maintenance (in this case our schools and buildings) while also being able to lead future planning for the maintenance team. We are seeking someone with a process improvement and growth mindset. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution At least eight years of progressively responsible experience in building equipment or maintenance management with demonstrated experience in facilities planning or capital project development Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited institution Certification in planning, construction management, or facilities management (e.g., AICP, PMP, FMP) Experience in a Florida public school district or similar governmental agency Familiarity with Florida statutes and State Requirements for Educational Facilities (SREF) Proficiency with GIS software and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, statutes, regulations, codes, and standards related to the area of responsibility. Knowledge of project control and cost estimating techniques. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, administration, students, and the community. Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure. Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations when numerous and diverse demands are involved. Ability to effectively plan and delegate the work of others. Ability to manage a budget and work within the constraints of that budget. Essential Job Functions
Develop and oversee comprehensive maintenance and capital plans, aligning priorities with district goals, operational needs, and fiscal resources. Direct daily operations of maintenance staff and delegate responsibilities to appropriate administrators and supervisors. Manage the development, review, and execution of the District’s Five-Year Capital Improvement Plan and Educational Plant Survey. Coordinate demographic analysis, school capacity planning, and site utilization to inform long-range facility development. Oversee policies and procedures related to maintenance, plant operations, and capital construction standards. Implement and monitor Board-approved budgets, projects, and departmental goals. Utilize CMMS and data-driven practices to manage maintenance operations, forecast needs, and track performance. Coordinate project prioritization, scheduling, and resource allocation for ongoing and planned maintenance and capital projects. Provide liaison services and ensure collaboration between the maintenance department and school/site leadership. Perform statistical analysis and present findings to support staffing decisions and facility investments. Estimate materials and labor for site maintenance and renovation projects and prepare associated reports. Monitor compliance with applicable codes, permitting processes, and regulatory requirements. Support recruitment, supervision, and professional development of maintenance staff. Prepare reports, memos, and presentations for the Superintendent, School Board, and stakeholders. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
