Pharmacy Operations Manager role at Walgreens. Accountable for performing day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations and administrative activities where allowed by state and federal laws/regulations; ensure efficient pharmacy workflow and a positive patient experience. Serve as a full-time certified pharmacy technician where applicable. Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, supervise pharmacy technicians and pharmacy cashiers within authorized company policies, laws, regulations, and business ethics. Lead the selection, scheduling, and development of pharmacy technician personnel. Conduct training, coaching, and performance management of pharmacy technicians. Make decisions regarding performance management including discipline and termination. Engage customers and patients by greeting them, assisting with products and services, resolving inquiries, and modeling customer service best practices; develop relationships by anticipating needs and promoting healthcare services. Assist the pharmacist in patient care activities including patient registration, prescription data entry, medication preparation, counting, verification (where allowed by law), and supporting health services such as vaccines and health screenings (where allowed by law). Delegate, direct, and assign non-clinical work in the pharmacy in line with policies and laws; ensure on-time task completion and workflow efficiency. Prepare and file reports and records required by the company and government agencies under pharmacist direction. Manage core pharmacy workflow and daily schedule; coordinate pharmacy hours and maintain a clean, stocked, and orderly pharmacy environment. Oversee pharmacy inventory management and recordkeeping; ensure compliance with business administrative activities and licensure or certification requirements as applicable. Lead technology/process rollouts, monitor security safeguards, and support recordkeeping alongside the Pharmacy Manager. Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policies during all dispensing activities and ensure responsibilities related to Good Faith Dispensing are met. Support asset protection; monitor for diversion and report concerns to the Pharmacy Manager. Communicate prescription errors to the accountable pharmacist and follow company policies regarding pharmacy errors and the Continuous Quality Improvement program. Assist in resolving insurance claims, coordinating with insurers and providers, and participating in third-party audits as needed. Support Store Manager and Pharmacy Manager in analyzing and improving pharmacy financials, operational quality, and customer service. Manage Community Outreach Portal and coordinate pharmacist assignments to off-site immunization clinics and community events; build and sustain relationships with retail partnerships. Lead performance management of technicians, including decisions regarding discipline and termination; enforce company policies to ensure regulatory compliance and attendance/timeliness; improve performance through engagement and action planning. Oversee technician hiring, onboarding, training, and scheduling; monitor training completion and ensure policy adherence. Identify knowledge gaps in pharmacy operations and support training through hands-on coaching or learning modules. Monitor licensures, registrations, and certifications for pharmacy staff to ensure active status; document licensure status using approved resources. Ensure proper procedures for recruitment, record retention, and training in line with company policy and laws. Training & Personal Development
Maintain PTCB certification and any required state certifications/registrations. Keep up-to-date with pharmacy and healthcare knowledge and acquire required certifications and training. Engage in professional development and seek feedback; use mentorship to support growth. Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico). At least one year of experience as a pharmacy technician in retail or hospital settings. Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking; exceptions per location). Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (except in specified locations). Preferred Qualifications
Previous people management/leadership experience. Previous Walgreens experience with an Exceeding Expectation on the last performance evaluation.
