This position is responsible for accepting, processing, and performing waived and moderate laboratory testing and reporting for the testing area. This role requires teamwork to achieve goals and meet deadlines to provide quality care to clients and patients. Responsibilities

Order Entry/Customer Service: Perform multiple computer entry, inquiry, and receiving functions; transcribe laboratory orders and registration activities as needed; demonstrate strong communication and customer service skills on the phone and in person; call critical results with appropriate read-back and within defined time frames. Specimen Processing: Accessions and processes specimens according to procedures; prepare specimens for transport or delivery; recognize and resolve specimen and equipment problems; deliver specimens to Rush laboratory locations or load specimens on instrumentation. Performs Laboratory Testing: Use required PPE; label and process specimens properly; perform laboratory procedures efficiently and with minimal supervision once trained; follow Rush-approved policies and procedures for all testing. Quality Control and Preventative Maintenance: Conduct QC procedures and maintenance for procedures and instrumentation; recognize QC problems, determine causes, and notify the supervisor per procedure. Troubleshooting: Perform basic equipment and process troubleshooting with minimal assistance; document actions and escalate as needed. Organization of Work Area: Maintain a neat, clean, organized, and well-stocked work area; disinfect at the start and end of each shift. Specimen Acceptability: Ensure specimen suitability and notify appropriate personnel if a specimen must be drawn or collected again. Turnaround Time: Meet turnaround time expectations by prioritizing and organizing workload; monitor pending lists to ensure timely processing. Time Management: Work efficiently, seek additional duties when tasks are completed, avoid unnecessary overtime, and adhere to break/lunch schedules. Continuing Education: Obtain and document 12 hours of laboratory continuing education per year. Special Projects: Participate in method evaluations, new procedure development, or process improvement projects; assist in training staff and students as needed. Report Reviewing and Results Reporting: Review lab results as required, take appropriate action before verification and release, call out critical results within defined time frames, and accurately transcribe results into the Lab Information System. Qualifications

Experience: No previous experience required. Education: Associates degree or higher in a relevant science field required, or education/work experience meeting the qualification of moderate complexity testing personnel as defined by CLIA 42 CFR 493.1489. Testing scope: Employees in this job classification are qualified to perform waived and moderate complexity testing; education and/or laboratory experience must meet CLIA requirements; Rush University Medical Center reserves the right to limit an MLT's scope of testing. Certification: Certification (or eligible) from a nationally recognized certifying agency is required. Eligibility as determined by ASCP and/or AMT requirements. Some laboratory disciplines may require more stringent certification criteria. Rush is an equal opportunity employer.
