Overview
WSP is initiating a search for an
Early Career, Traffic Engineer . This position can be based out of our
Seattle, WA
or
Portland, OR
offices. Be involved in projects with our Pacific Mountain West Traffic Engineering Team and contribute to transportation and infrastructure projects within the region. The team focuses on a blended traffic design and operations approach. Based in the Seattle or Redmond area, you will report to the office at least three days a week with the option to work remotely up to two days per week.
Our objective is to attract motivated engineers and designers interested in Traffic and ITS Engineering to support our client’s growing needs and to help shape the future of transportation solutions.
Your Impact
Under general supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the site, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, maps, technical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
Assist with conducting investigations and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, roadways, intersections, signage, signals, and other traffic-related elements to ensure conformance with applicable rules and permits.
Provide entry-level technical assistance on design requirements and operating strategies to support safety and functionality for end-users and transportation systems.
Assist with traffic engineering studies, capacity analyses, safety analyses, operations analyses, ITS, signal design, illumination, signing and pavement markings, and traffic control plans.
Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field logs.
Adhere to safety guidelines and site procedures, including data collection, documentation, and surveys.
Contribute to ensuring deliverables meet acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
Complete training on assigned tasks and demonstrate responsible and ethical decision-making.
Collaborate with the team to support project needs and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and policies.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a closely related discipline.
0 to 1 year of relevant post-education experience.
Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset.
Familiarity with roadway transportation and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with engineering and non-engineering audiences.
Detail-oriented with the ability to self-lead and prioritize in a dynamic environment, while also working in a team.
Proficiency with technical writing, office software, and related tools.
Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to company health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
Ability to work flexible schedules that may extend beyond a typical workweek and occasional travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications
Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification.
Familiarity with discipline-specific software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Synchro, Vissim).
Active involvement in local professional practice organizations.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Compensation Expected Salary (all locations): $61,300 - $96,030
WSP USA reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range and to offer additional benefits based on circumstances not related to protected status.
