JOB SUMMARY: Assist the Store Production Supervisor and Store Manager in maintaining productivity and meeting/exceeding daily production goals. Perform processor duties (processing donated items for sale) through a sequential process involving sorting, grading, pricing and invoicing. Perform Material Handler duties. Essential Duties
Lead Duties: Assist the Store Production Supervisor or Store Manager in establishing and maintaining an efficient pace for goods processing; organize the department, ensuring a safe work environment; train new employees in procedures (including safety) and procedure changes; monitor production quality and staff productivity standards as directed by the manager; monitor product sales and direct product accordingly; serve as a resource to processors/handlers with procedural questions; provide input to the supervisor on employee performance; notify the supervisor of any conduct or performance problems; assist with development and communication of employee work schedules; perform basic supervisor duties in the absence of the supervisor. Processor Duties: Following established guidelines, sort and grade textile/clothing items by classification (e.g., men’s, women’s, children’s, and other textiles) and by quality level (retail store grade, Outlet grade, or salvage); hang items meeting quality standards; price items meeting quality standards by grouping textiles by value; sort and grade hard sort items by classification and quality level; clean and grade items by removing surface dirt; tag items meeting quality standards with appropriate tags or labels. Material Handler Duties: Unload donations from trucks and trailers; maintain records of offloaded materials; move and place carts, containers and barrels containing donations for processing; perform preliminary donation processing, including separating items into classifications and determining saleability. Secondary Duties
May perform Donor services such as taking donations, documenting donation information and communicating with donors. perform duties related to daily sanitizing of store and donation locations. May perform minor janitorial duties as required/assigned. Store Lead Processors may need to perform related duties not listed on this job description. Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Experience: One year experience as a processor or material handler, or equivalent. Knowledge: Basic math ability; familiarity with Goodwill Central Coast’s mission, general company policies and procedures; familiarity with computers. Skills/Aptitudes: Ability to communicate effectively in English (and basic Spanish); ability to follow directions and procedures; adaptability to changes in workflow; ability to work calmly with co-workers; manual dexterity for handling items; ability to differentiate items by quality; ability to meet and maintain production and quality standards; satisfactory attendance; adherence to safety policies and reporting hazards. Physical Demands & Work Environment
The job involves lifting and/or carrying items up to 50 lbs regularly; heavier items may require assistance or equipment. Normal or corrected hearing, vision and speech are sufficient. Mobility to walk, climb, and navigate ramps and uneven surfaces is required. Work is performed in a large enclosed warehouse with variable temperature; dust and dirt are controlled by daily cleaning. Some contact with the public during donation acceptance. Moderate noise levels; equipment and trucks may operate in the work area.
