Under general direction, the Senior Transportation Planner serves as the System Planning Branch Chief, leading the identification of community, transit, bicycle, pedestrian, climate, freight, planning for operations, and roadway needs on the state highway system. The incumbent assists in the development and implementation of performance-based planning studies that identify current and future deficiencies on the state highway system. With staff support, the incumbent creates workflows, guidance, or tools that enhance system planning efforts statewide; works with the Office Chief to ensure ongoing communication among OCSP, Modal Offices, Divisions, and Districts; manages staff workload assignments, personnel hiring, staff training, database filing systems, contracts, internal/external meetings, documents and legislation analysis; provides support to other Senior Transportation Planner assignments as required; and ensures planning solutions align with Governor's Executive Orders, CAPTI, CTP, Caltrans Strategic Plan, and other relevant policies. Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Senior Transportation Planner exam. If you do not have current eligibility and will be new to state civil service, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible. Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a State owned or leased vehicle. Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required. The SOQ serves as documentation of writing ability; follow the provided instructions to complete it. Include responses in the same order as questions, typed, no more than two pages, 12-point Arial.
