The Lead Data Insights Engineer will architect, develop, and maintain the Gold Layer ETL processes that transform raw data into actionable business insights within our intelligence ecosystem. This role orchestrates complex end-to-end data pipelines, ensures seamless integration between upstream Bronze/Silver layers and downstream analytics, enforces data governance and scalability, and collaborates with stakeholders to co-prioritize data needs and drive adoption of self-service analytics platforms. The role also partners with Data Science to explore AI/ML automation for data governance and works with IT to deploy scalable solutions while staying ahead of cloud analytics and AI trends. You Will Be Responsible For
Data Management & ETL Orchestration: direct & innovate the end-to-end orchestration of the Gold layer ETL processes, owning data cleansing, validation, standardization, enrichment, aggregation, and formatting with attention to performance, security, and scalability. Build & maintain individual business bays with necessary data tables, business rules, logic, and mappings to transform raw data into dynamic insights. Apply advanced data management techniques to aggregate & disaggregate insights dynamically, enabling granular reporting where possible. Document data flow mapping to ensure data lineage, storage, process, dependencies, integrity, and governance are maintained throughout transformation. Build, Foster & Maintain Key Partnerships
Collaborate with the Center Data Strategy team to identify data gaps and leverage upstream data extractions, proactively future-proofing to minimize maintenance. Engage business stakeholders (Marketing, Sales, Key Account Management, Digital) to prioritize sources, requirements, rules, logic, and mappings for transforming raw data into insights, while exploring additional possibilities. Innovate with Data Science to automate Data Governance of mappings through AI/ML; work with IT to load dynamic insights into a self-service platform and the Commercial Intelligence Database. Drive user adoption of the source of truth for Commercial Intelligence, Strategic Targeting, and Data Products Ecosystem (analytics, dashboards, and reports). Coordinate with Legal, Privacy, and Compliance to align insights with regulatory requirements. Consistent Learning & Innovation Champion
Stay ahead of industry trends in data engineering, cloud analytics, and AI-driven insights. Drive best practices in data management and propose approaches to enhance data solutions. Develop knowledge of Johnson & Johnson MedTech processes and datasets relevant to market, competition, and procedures. Champion automation and foster a collaborative environment conducive to innovation. Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, policies, and the J&J Credo values. Qualifications / Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred. Fields: Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science or related. 3–5 years of post-academic work experience; medical technology or healthcare experience is highly desired. Proficiency in Data Modeling (Azure, Data Factory, Databricks, Purview). Proficiency in ETL orchestration (Azure DevOps, CI/CD). Proficiency in complex data transformation (SQL, Alteryx, Python, SAS, R). Experience with data flow mapping and advanced data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau). Advanced Excel and PowerPoint; strong data management skills. Understanding of data models, MDM, data governance frameworks, and building self-service analytics platforms. Attention to detail with extensive experience in aggregating data and generating insights. Experience with Microsoft Azure, Fabric, OneLake & PowerBI is highly preferred; experience in Medical Technology is highly preferred. Demonstrated leadership and ability to drive cross-functional collaboration. Excellent verbal & written communication skills, especially in presenting technical information to non-technical stakeholders. Effective project management with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Strong problem-solving mindset to identify gaps and minimize future maintenance; results-oriented with ability to translate business strategy into insights.
