State School Teacher (12 Months) To Teach English to Speakers of Other Languages #251006-8039T4-001 – State of Connecticut. Introduction: Are you an endorsed educator in Connecticut and looking to transform the lives of our incarcerated population? This recruitment is for the Connecticut Department of Correction Unified School District #1, seeking educators to teach English to speakers of other languages and to transition students to function in both the workplace and personal capacities in the role titled State School Teacher. Candidates must have an experienced background in teaching English. Eligible candidates must have one of the following CT Teaching Endorsements: TESOL 111, PK-12; 088 Non-English Speaking Adults. Responsibilities
As a State School Teacher with the DOC, you will be responsible for: Prioritizing safety and security as it pertains to staff, victims, citizens, and offenders; Teaching early intervention, elementary, secondary, special subject, and/or special education curricula; Developing educational plans for individuals and groups; Setting short and long term goals and evaluating student progress; Participating in planning team meetings and case review conferences to assess student behavior; Holding conferences with parents or officials concerned with student performance; Relating to professionals in ancillary educational roles; Maintaining student records and writing reports; Modeling positive teaching practices. Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college. Preferred qualifications include experience teaching a diverse group of people and experience in a correctional institution setting. State of CT teaching Endorsements: TESOL 111, PK-12; 088 Non-English Speaking Adults. Special requirements: valid Connecticut State Board of Education teaching certificate appropriate to the assignment; incumbents may be required to possess and retain a current Connecticut motor vehicle operator’s license. Schedule: first-shift, full-time (35 hours per week), Monday through Friday. Location: Manson Youth Institution, Cheshire, CT. Note: Unified School District #1 follows a 12-month school calendar. Training: Selected candidates attend a fourteen (14) week training at the CT DOC Training Academy. Salary and Benefits
Salary details derived from the P-3B T1-T4 35 Hour Pay Plan (Step 1: minimum to Step 11-14: maximum). Bachelor’s degree: Step 1 around $68,792; Master’s degree: Step 1 around $72,241; 6th Year: Step 1 around $77,294; increases at higher steps. Benefits include State of Connecticut Retirement Plan or SERS, medical and dental plans, sick and personal leave, vacation, tuition reimbursement, potential student loan forgiveness after 10 years of service, and more.
