Overview
State School Teacher (12 Months) To Teach English to Speakers of Other Languages – Cheshire, CT. This recruitment may be used to fill openings in correctional facilities across the state. The role focuses on teaching English to speakers of other languages and transitioning students to function in the workplace and personal capacities within the Department of Correction Unified School District #1 (USD #1). Responsibilities
Prioritize safety and security as it pertains to staff, victims, citizens, and offenders; Teach early intervention, elementary, secondary, special subject, and/or special education curricula; Develop educational plans for individuals and groups; Set short- and long-term goals and evaluate student progress; Participate in planning team meetings and case review conferences to assess student behavior; Hold conferences with parents or officials concerned with student performance; Relate to professionals in ancillary educational roles; Maintain student records and write reports; Model positive teaching practices. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching a diverse group of people; experience working in a correctional institution setting; experience teaching groups with differing levels of education; the following State of CT teaching Endorsements: TESOL 111, PK-12; 088 Non-English Speaking Adults. Special Requirements
Employment in this class is conditional upon possession of a valid Connecticut State Board of Education teaching certificate appropriate to the teaching assignment; Incumbents may be required to possess and retain a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle operator’s license. About Us and the District
