Assistant Director, BIPMO (PROJECT POLICY ANL SUPV 2)

role at UC Davis Health Informatics. Under the general direction of the Director of the Business Enablement Team, the Project and Policy Analyst Supervisor provides analytical leadership and strategic direction for business intelligence (BI) and portfolio/project management (PPM) across UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) to drive organizational objectives. The role combines advanced PPM expertise, BI strategy oversight, and direct supervision of professional staff. The incumbent manages divisional BI platforms, data governance, reporting, as well as efforts to increase data fluency, ensuring data-driven decision-making through dashboards, KPIs, and analytics. They also oversee the CPE project portfolio, directing a team of project managers and business analysts who plan and implement complex cross-divisional and business unit initiatives. This oversight includes ensuring use of appropriate and standardized project management practices, managing a project call, aligning projects with strategic priorities, assigning resources, monitoring outcomes, and ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and with added business value. This position serves as the central hub for divisional project planning and reporting, setting team goals, guiding professional development, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Emphasizing collaboration, communication, and stakeholder engagement, and incorporating change management, the role uses a human-centered approach to align BI insights and project outcomes with CPE’s strategic goals. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience as a project manager and business analyst, managing complex projects and leading cross-functional teams. Experience gathering and documenting requirements, mapping workflows, and developing operational or business solutions and related policies. Experience deploying business intelligence strategy, data governance, and BI platforms and analytics tools. Supervisory experience to recruit, mentor, train and coach staff to create a positive and productive work environment. Strong analytical, problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences. Demonstrable skill in negotiation, consensus-building, conflict resolution, and collaborative problem-solving. Ability to exercise sound judgment, manage competing priorities, make strategic decisions independently, manage sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality. Preferred Qualifications PMP or other relevant project management certifications preferred. Experience managing a Project Management Office Experience in higher education or other complex public-sector environments. Experience using project and BI tools (e.g., Smartsheet, Airtable, Tableau, Microsoft Project, Power BI) and developing reports and dashboards. Familiarity with both waterfall and agile methodologies.
