Founded in 1971, Centers for New Horizons, Inc. (Centers) is a nonprofit organization that assists children, youth, and families to become self-reliant. With 100+ full-time staff, Centers provides programs in seven locations throughout the Bronzeville and Riverdale communities of Chicago's Southside that reach over 1,000 individuals daily. Position Overview Please note this is a contract position with up to 20 hours a week. The Facilities Manager primary responsibilities are to oversee the maintenance, safety, and functionality of our buildings, equipment, and grounds. The Facility Manager will be responsible for ensuring that all facilities meet operational requirement and compliance standards. We are seeking an experienced proactive individual with knowledge of HVAC systems, fire protection infrastructure, and other complex operational needs. We need a candidate who is experienced in managing and maintaining a facility. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the facility, including maintenance, cleaning, and safety. Assist the Director of Operations in implementing maintenance procedures, preventative maintenance schedules, and emergency plans. Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialized tasks. Manage building systems such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, and elevators. Assist the Director of Operations in coordinating renovation, refurbishment, or construction projects and manage contractors and service providers. Ensure the facility complies with health and safety regulations and local laws. Conduct regular inspections of the property and systems to ensure functionality and safety. Respond promptly to facility-related issues and emergencies. Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, and compliance reports. Performs other related duties as assigned. Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred). 35 years of experience in facilities management or building operations. Knowledge of building systems, mechanical and electrical equipment, and facility codes and regulations. Proficiency in facility management software and Microsoft Office. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Physical Requirements
Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. May require evening or weekend work in emergency situations. Regular site inspections and possible manual or physical activity. Combination of office and fieldwork. Must have a valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance and reliable transportation. Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills and/or abilities. To perform this job successfully, the incumbent will possess the abilities or aptitudes to perform each duty proficiently.
