Founded in 1971, Centers for New Horizons, Inc. (Centers) is a nonprofit organization that assists children, youth, and families to become self-reliant. With 100+ full-time staff, most of whom live in or near its service communities, Centers provides programs in seven locations throughout the Bronzeville and Riverdale communities of Chicago's Southside that reach over 1,000 individuals daily.
The Community Engagement Specialist serves as a critical liaison between program leads and the communications team, ensuring timely and accurate collection and dissemination of information related to CNH’s community engagement events. This role is essential to keeping stakeholders informed and ensuring all events are promoted effectively across appropriate channels.
Key Responsibilities
Information Gathering: Proactively communicate with program leads to gather essential details for upcoming events (date, time, location, partners, logos, pictures, etc.).
Project Coordination: Maintain a communications calendar and track deadlines for promotional needs.
Internal Liaison: Serve as the point of contact between program departments and the communications team, ensuring clarity and timeliness in messaging.
Documentation: Create and maintain templates or checklists to streamline event information collection.
Content Support: Assist in drafting or editing copy for flyers, newsletters, social media, or other promotional materials as needed.
System Management: Utilize internal tools (Google Workspace, project management software, shared drives) to manage communications workflows and asset storage.
Meeting Participation: Attend planning meetings with program staff to stay informed on upcoming initiatives and deadlines.
Qualifications
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational and project management abilities.
Techsavvy; proficient in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Trello, Asana, Monday.com).
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Collaborative and proactive mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a community-based or mission-driven organization.
Basic design or content editing skills (Canva, Adobe, etc.) are a plus.
Familiarity with social media platforms and scheduling tools.
Work Environment This position may involve a combination of on-site work and remote communication. Occasional evening or weekend availability may be needed based on community event schedules.
