We are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee our accounting and financial operations on a part-time basis. The ideal candidate will bring strong accounting expertise, sound business judgment, and the ability to streamline and manage processes in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Overview
The Part-Time Controller will manage all aspects of accounting operations, financial reporting, and budgeting. This position oversees day-to-day accounting functions, ensures timely and accurate reporting, and provides financial insights to support leadership and business decisions. The Controller will also manage the Staff Accountant and Payroll/Admin professional, and oversee key business functions such as payroll, health insurance, and other insurance programs. Responsibilities
Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations. Supervise and support the Staff Accountant and Payroll/Admin professional. Manage month-end and year-end close processes and prepare financial statements. Maintain and optimize QuickBooks accounting system, ensuring proper setup, reporting, and integration with other systems. Oversee Paychex payroll processing, including reconciliations, tax filings, and benefits coordination. Manage company health insurance and other business insurance policies, renewals, and compliance requirements. Monitor cash flow, manage banking relationships, and support budgeting and forecasting efforts. Coordinate with external accountants for annual reviews, tax filings, and related compliance matters. Provide management with financial analysis and recommendations on profitability, expense management, and strategic planning. Support department heads with financial reporting and project cost tracking as needed. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including prior Controller or Assistant Controller experience. Strong proficiency in QuickBooks (required) and Excel; experience with Paychex or similar payroll systems. Proven leadership skills with experience supervising accounting or administrative staff. Knowledge of benefits administration, insurance management, and vendor coordination. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver accurate, timely results. Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills. Experience in a consulting or professional services environment strongly preferred. Work Schedule
