The Controller is a senior-level accounting professional responsible for managing the company’s financial operations, ensuring accurate and timely reporting, and maintaining compliance with internal and external requirements. This role oversees the accounting team, supports strategic financial planning, and ensures the integrity of financial data across systems and processes. The Controller will work closely with the CFO and other departments to support budgeting, audits, and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
Lead and ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end closings Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP Develop year-end schedules for external accountants to support tax preparation Manage accounts payable processes, including weekly check runs and outgoing ACH payments Prepare bi-weekly payroll journals and maintain general ledger mapping in Paycom Provide backup support for A/P and Staff Accountant functions when needed Supervise and review Staff Accountant responsibilities, including: Contractor payments WVL imports and reconciliations Monthly account reconciliations and accruals Oversee and collaborate with the Director of Billing & Revenue to oversee accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding items Maintain and update MoveWare (MW) system with current rates, costs, move products, vendor products, and GL accounts Adjust loan and capital lease balances quarterly based on amortization schedules Provide financial data and analysis to the CFO for annual budget preparation Review and reconcile insurance premiums and payments to ensure accuracy Prepare and submit information for various state and local tax filings, including personal property tax (PPT), annual reports, and sales tax Perform banking activities such as cashing checks and scanning receipts for deposit when needed
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred) Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities Strong understanding of financial reporting, payroll, and tax compliance Proficiency in accounting software, payroll systems (e.g., Paycom), and Microsoft Excel Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
Preferred Attributes
Experience in the moving, logistics, or service industry Familiarity with Move Ware or similar operational accounting platforms Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead a team in a dynamic environment
