The Manufacturing Engineer II is a highly experienced role responsible for designing, implementing, and reviewing manufacturing processes, procedures, and equipment in one or more facilities. Oversees and optimizes complex manufacturing and assembly of new and existing products to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives and drive operational excellence. Develops advanced manufacturing techniques, tests new systems and methods for efficiency, and plans assembly layouts to optimize production, quality, cost, and safety. May be responsible for developing and deploying large capital projects. Evaluates complex manufacturing processes by conducting process analysis, applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials, conferring with suppliers, and soliciting observations from operators/production technicians. Develops complex manufacturing processes by studying product requirements, researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; prepares written and graphical work instructions to communicate manufacturing requirements to production personnel. Refines and enhances products and processes by applying continuous improvement and lean manufacturing/production principles to high-impact areas; may lead special projects. Interfaces with customers to present program status, analyze product failure, probable cause, and corrective plan. Improves manufacturing efficiency by planning workflow, space requirements, equipment layout and establishing design for manufacture and assembly plans. Ensures process control and reliability for broad areas of manufacturing; may include supplier base coordination. Designs testing methods, tests finished product and process capabilities, and establishes standards to validate manufacturing process requirements; determines root causes using statistical methods and may change design, tolerances, or processing methods. Recommends and implements changes to manufacturing processes by analyzing production, labor standards, and material costs, and reviewing production schedules. Participates in program reviews of technical issues at supplier base and drives continuous improvement with suppliers. Maintains professional and technical knowledge through workshops, publications, industry networks, benchmarking, and professional associations. Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements; advises management on needed actions. May provide leadership to others in department; acts as prime contact on high level projects; trains and mentors less experienced employees. Collaborates with cross-functional teams and represents the company on high-level projects; contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Bachelor's degree (BS) in Manufacturing Engineering or related engineering field. Demonstrated ability to perform essential functions typically through six years or more of related experience. Society of Manufacturing Engineering (SME) or Mechanical Engineering (ASME) certification desired. Thorough knowledge of manufacturing and production engineering theories, principles, practices, techniques and concepts; broad knowledge of related engineering areas and business operations; knowledge of aerospace or related industry products; ability to implement continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles. May require thorough knowledge of process analysis and statistical process control; general knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements related to manufacturing plants. Ability to use standard business software and/or specialized data analysis tools; ability to work with CAD/CAM systems; ability to apply drafting and machining systems to improve productivity. Ability to address diverse technical problems, evaluate outcomes, and coordinate across multiple teams; ability to establish project goals and objectives. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and policies; communicate effectively with team members, leaders, and management; respond to inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or the business community. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; negotiate effectively for best prices and terms on products and services. Ability to demonstrate team member competencies and participate in goal-setting and performance feedback. This position is subject to U.S. export compliance and/or U.S. Government contracting citizenship eligibility requirements; U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident Status required.
