Overview
DSHS FTAA Senior IT Application Development Specialist role with the State of Washington. This position provides support for centralized financial applications in the Financial Applications Unit (FAU) within the Finance, Technology, & Analytics Administration (FTAA). The applications include areas such as collections and account receivables, cash receipting and processing, budget reporting, grants management, tax reporting, garnishments, and other mission-critical financial systems with interfaces to multiple agencies. The role has statewide scope and a hybrid telework schedule within Washington State. What You Will Do
Lead technical solution efforts for financial applications, including design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support. Architect scalable, high-impact solutions that align technology strategies with business needs. Analyze, diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex application and integration issues. Ensure compliance with IT policies, security standards, and quality benchmarks throughout the application lifecycle. Serve as a lead for technology solution implementation and application integration efforts. Collaborate with customers, database administrators, network engineers, business analysts, and security analysts to build and deliver high-quality, secure solutions. Contribute to continuous improvement of development processes and promote best practices across the team. Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to other developers, helping shape the architecture and future direction of enterprise financial systems. Who Should Apply
IT professionals with 12+ years of professional experience in computer application development and maintenance. Knowledge and experience include analyzing, designing, implementing, or programming medium to large-scale software applications using modern technology platforms and languages such as Microsoft .NET Framework with ASP.NET, C#, MVC, WinForms, SOA, and MS SQL, SSRS, SSIS or other ETL processes. Additional college degrees may substitute years of experience. For example, an associate degree with 10 years of experience or a bachelor’s degree with 8 years of experience will also be considered. As a substitution, eligible professionals may include a computer science master’s degree with 6 years of experience in computer application development and maintenance, including: Analyzing, designing, implementing, or programming medium to large-scale software application using modern technology platforms and languages. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Experience across multiple software, hardware, networking, and integration areas for architecting front-end, back-end, and data analytics using a variety of technologies; familiarity with Agile, SCRUM, Iterative, or Waterfall development methodologies. Ability to adjust priorities in rapidly changing environments, provide technical leadership across multiple projects; experience with Team Foundation Server (TFS) and Azure DevOps. Proficiency in professional software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations.
