RN Unit Manager Responsibilities

Monitors facility clinical systems to facilitate quality resident care in accordance with laws, regulations and facility guidelines.

Delivers basic nursing care to residents as ordered by a physician and per care plans.

Directs and develops RNs, LPNs and CNAs to ensure high quality care and services in compliance with laws, regulations and guidelines.

Performs ongoing resident assessments and updates care plans as conditions change.

Collaborates with the ADON and DON to resolve grievances or concerns related to resident care or family issues.

Documents interventions and resident or family education efforts timely and accurately.

Conducts rounds within the nursing department to assess resident conditions and clinical practices.

Documents nursing care notes in resident charts in a timely manner.

Performs medication administration and IV duties as ordered by a physician and per care plans.

Monitors progress of residents and suggests treatment plan adjustments to meet care needs.

Observes resident behavior, vital signs and responses to treatment; reports findings to nursing supervisors.

Completes resident incident reports when changes in condition are identified.

Monitors residents’ skin to identify risk of pressure ulcers.

Performs a wide variety of nursing administrative duties and supports proper admissions, transfers and discharges.

May assist in recruitment, selection and orientation of Nursing Department staff.

Provides expectations and monitors performance of nursing staff; delegates assignments and supervises RNs, LPNs and CNAs on the unit.

Communicates guidelines, training and procedures to RNs, LPNs, CNAs, residents, families and physicians.

Ensures timely responses to call lights and provides direct support as needed.

Promotes teamwork with praise and recognition for RNs, LPNs and CNAs.

Monitors staff schedule adherence for meals, breaks, shift start/end times and overtime; evaluates staff performance and takes corrective action as needed.

RN Unit Manager Requirements

Current RN license in State.

At least one year of experience as an RN in a Long Term Care setting preferred.

Knowledge of Matrixcare preferred.
