Overview

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is to provide psychiatric assessments and medication management to children and adults experiencing a behavioral health crisis within a 24/7 Crisis Stabilization Center. Responsibilities

Provide psychiatric and substance abuse care and medication to appropriate clients, applying standards of care consistent with good medical judgment and current practice in the psychiatric community. This may include the administration of intramuscular medication when appropriate. Conduct psychiatric and substance abuse examinations for diagnostic evaluation, determine treatment needs and prognostic factors; detect danger to self or others and collaborate with the treatment team to implement appropriate precautions. Monitor pharmacological effects of prescribed psychotropic medications and report on their effectiveness to the team. Consult with staff regarding client medical background and collaborate with appropriate professionals in the community to integrate agency treatment with overall medical care. Contribute to the timely production of necessary reports to other agencies concerning clients who have been examined or treated. Prescribe appropriate laboratory testing in collaboration with the treating physician and/or conduct relevant studies or tests; implement follow-up as needed. Maximize direct client contact through effective time management; work with the treatment team to provide integrated care and outreach when indicated. Establish and maintain clinical case records, including treatment plans, progress notes, and reviews, documenting therapeutic intervention for the Agency, funding, licensing and billing authorities. Work as part of the ICSC team; participate in team meetings to provide input on psychosocial conditions and comorbidities, review client status, update plans and goals, and review outcomes to further program goals. Assist the program in providing crisis intervention and follow-up on an as-needed basis 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including shared on-call responsibility with other PNPs. Facilitate data sharing with applicable individuals to support partnered decision-making and keep clients informed of progress. Complete onboarding QI training and participate in refresher training as needed. Contribute to an inclusive culture and adhere to safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for all employees. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Educational Requirements Masters' degree in advanced nursing practice in psychiatry from an accredited program. New York State license and registration as a Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry. Current DEA registration. Certification required in Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) (e.g., suboxone). Experience Required Substantial clinical experience with the diagnosis and treatment of the full spectrum of mental disorders in outpatient and/or inpatient settings. Experience with managing seriously and persistently ill clients as well as those with psychiatric and co-occurring substance use disorders. Familiarity with current DSM criteria. Benefits
