Standard Ship Repair
Overview
Pipe Fitters fabricate and join metal pipes, valves, and fittings, and layout for installation from prints, diagrams, work orders, and/or verbal instructions using hand and powered hand tools. They must be familiar with OSHA requirements for safety and hot work onboard naval vessels. Responsibilities
Interpret and fabricate piping system components using prints, written and/or verbal directions in a shop environment. Accomplish removals, preparation, and installation of reused and new materials onboard naval vessels. Follow the workmanship requirements of MIL-STD-22, Welded Joint Design; S9074-AR-GIB-010_278, Requirements for Fabrication Welding and Inspection, and Casting Inspection and Repair for Machinery, Piping, and Pressure Vessels; and 0900-LP-001-7000, Fabrication, and Inspection of Brazed Piping Systems. Respect safety and regulatory requirements on naval vessels, including OSHA 10 Maritime as applicable. Qualifications
Must be 18 years old. Must be able to work in the US. High School Diploma or equivalent. Completed a structured welding program. Must have a valid California driver's license. Must be able to obtain a DBIDS credentials. Must possess basic reading, writing and mathematical skills. Preferred: previous experience in a ship repair environment; understanding of Naval Ship Repair requirements and working environment. Position Details
Position Type/Hours: Full-time, 40+ hours per week. M-F 0600-1430 (or as otherwise assigned by Project Manager) with pre-scheduled overtime as needed. Work Environment: Shipyard Travel: Ability to travel Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those required to perform the essential functions. Must be able to work at heights, in confined spaces, and climb stairs and ladders of varying sizes. May involve lifting objects up to 50 lbs, and frequent stooping, bending, crawling, reaching, and walking. Work Authorization/Security
