The Aerojet Rocketdyne Business Segment of L3Harris is seeking a Lead, Materials & Process Engineer with non-metallic materials experience to support ongoing Engineering and Manufacturing Development programs, production programs, new product development and materials obsolescence. Desired experience includes polymer matrix composites (epoxy and phenolic resin systems) and polymeric materials such as rubber and adhesives. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Materials and Process Engineering in Huntsville, AL. Essential Functions

Under limited general supervision of the Materials and Process Engineering technical leadership team and/or Program Chief Engineer, apply knowledge of engineering and scientific principles to resolve materials-related issues, utilize six sigma techniques, lean manufacturing process knowledge and sound decision-making principles to perform the following duties. Elastomer formulation development, as required, to support program requirements and/or materials obsolescence (DMSMS); ability to support development at material suppliers, having knowledge of mixing, calendaring and testing of elastomers (rheological, mechanical and thermal testing). Provide materials manufacturing expertise in molding of epoxy and phenolic based composite materials; support manufacturing issues with compression molded, autoclave cured and tape-wrapped components made from carbon and glass fiber reinforced composites. Support design process by providing material selection recommendations, creating material specifications, reviewing design drawings, reviewing manufacturing planning, providing supplier technical support and supporting Engineering Review Boards, Process Change Boards, Failure Review Boards and customer technical interchange meetings. Develop test plans in coordination with Design and Analysis disciplines and characterize non-metallic materials; analyze material properties and develop design allowables per industry standards; summarize material properties and design allowable methodology in a written report. Perform engineering analysis of non-conforming hardware including coordination of analysis for disposition of Material Review Board documents. Maintain interactions with customers on materials obsolescence. Conduct failure analyses to determine root cause, document technical conclusions of failure investigations. Provide on-site support at L3Harris manufacturing facilities and supplier manufacturing facilities, as required, to assist in troubleshooting and problem solving production related issues. Travel: up to 35% of time annually may be required to support work at suppliers and other enterprise locations. Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance. Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior Material and Process experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior Material and Process experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior Material and Process experience. Preferred Additional Skills

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering. A Master's degree in one of the above disciplines is preferred. Strong communication, technical presentation, teamwork, and Microsoft Office skills. Experience solving elastomeric materials manufacturing problems – mixing, calendaring, molding and adhesive bonding. Mold design experience is preferred. Knowledge of accelerated material age testing and analysis is preferred. Active US Secret Clearance is a plus. EEO and Security
