Payroll Specialist

Pay:
$23 to $27/hour (depending on experience) + $250 bonus
Experience:
2 years of direct payroll processing experience within the construction industry is required.
Experience in a construction company is preferred, but not required.
Education:
High school diploma or GED.
Type:
Full-time; Contract
Schedule:
Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm
Job Responsibilities
Process end-to-end bi-weekly payroll for all employees.
Ensure accurate calculations of wages, overtime, differentials, bonuses, garnishments, and deductions.
Manage the specific requirements of Union Payroll, including correctly applying different pay scales, fringe benefits, and reporting according to various Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs).
Prepare and file Certified Payroll Reports for all government or prevailing wage projects.
Process and track all employee leaves, including sick leave, vacation, and leave required by Hawaii law.
Serve as the primary contact for all employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies efficiently and confidentially.
Perform regular payroll reconciliations and internal audits to ensure data integrity and compliance.
Prepare and submit all required federal and state payroll tax filings, including quarterly Form 941 and annual W-2s.
Generate detailed payroll reports for accounting and project management, including job costing and labor distribution reports.
Manage all Union benefit contributions and reporting, submitting accurate and timely payments to various union trust funds.
Maintain and organize all payroll records, ensuring compliance with retention requirements.
Manage new hire setups, employee status changes (promotions, transfers, terminations), and updates to tax and direct deposit information.
Collaborate closely with the Human Resources department to ensure smooth data flow and proper administration of employee benefits and time-off policies.
Required Qualifications
Proven knowledge of federal and Hawaii state wage and hour laws, payroll tax regulations, and certified payroll requirements.
Demonstrated experience handling multi-union payroll (e.g., Operating Engineers, Laborers, Teamsters) and interpreting Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs).
Proficiency in payroll software and strong competency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, data analysis).
Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism.
