LEGOLAND CA SEA LIFE Education Associate - PT SEA LIFE Education Associate is responsible for delivering memorable guest experiences through educational talks and demonstrations. A SEA LIFE Education Associate is also responsible for upholding our operating standards of safety, service, presentation, and efficiency, along with driving positive guest satisfaction survey results. This is a Part Time position.

Responsibilities

Provides outstanding guest service and creates memorable guest experiences.

Uses interpretive techniques to educate guests throughout the aquarium.

Upholds SEA LIFE operating standards of safety, service, presentation, and efficiency.

Interprets exhibit information to guests of all ages, especially young children.

Adheres to standard operating procedures at all times.

Handles crowd control, guest questions, and guest recovery, and addresses other operations issues as they surface.

Learns and interprets proper identification of marine animals and related ecology and conservation.

Observes and reports the conditions of all animals and monitors their safety and wellbeing at the touch pool.

Is comfortable with handling animals, including snakes, and follows proper animal handling procedures and protocols.

Identifies and interprets biofacts and props to children and adults in an Aquarium setting.

Speaks publicly in one-on-one settings and to large groups in a show setting.

Communicates facility requirements, safety issues, or staffing issues to the Zonal Lead or management.

Conducts breaks for fellow employees in a timely manner.

Greets and excites guests entering and throughout the Aquarium; collaborates with other SEA LIFE departments to foster a positive work environment.

May have additional tasks assigned on occasions.

Qualifications & Experience

Prefer prior experience in a zoo, aquarium, or informal learning settings

Prior experience in working with children preferred

Animal handling experience preferred

Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Comfortable talking to groups of people

Excellent guest service skills

Self-motivated and demonstrated initiative

Strong attention to detail

Team player and works well with fellow employees

Health And Safety Employees are responsible for the safety of themselves, their colleagues and guests, in line with the Group Policy (HS001) and the law. Follow safe working procedures for all activities and report incidents to the line manager and cooperate with investigations as appropriate. SEA LIFE Exhibit interpreters are responsible for upholding SEA LIFE’s high safety standards and ensuring safety policies are adhered to at all times by guests.

Education High School diploma required. Coursework in science or education preferred.

Other Requirements

Intermittent and prolonged standing and walking to move about the aquarium.

Ability to keep hands and arms in contact with salt and freshwater while interacting with guests.

Physical Requirements Sitting: Occasionally (1 - 33%)

Standing: Constantly (67 - 100%)

Walking: Constantly (67 - 100%)

Lifts & Carries: up to 50 pounds in various frequencies

Twisting, bending, squatting/kneeling/crawling/climbing: Occasionally

Pushing/Pulling: up to 24 pounds, Occasional

Visual Requirements: Close eye work, depth perception, distance vision

Hearing Requirements: Ability to communicate clearly (alarms, phone, conversations)
