Overview
The incumbent supports the University’s financial reporting, accounting, and compliance functions, ensuring integrity of financial records and adherence to GAAP and GASB standards. Responsibilities
Maintain the integrity of the University’s financial records and ensure compliance with Federal, State, and governing regulations, including GAAP and GASB standards. Assist in the preparation of the University’s annual Financial Statements, Notes to the Financial Statements, Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A), and Required Supplementary Information (RSI) for state audit and certification. Prepare annual, quarterly, and ad-hoc financial reports for the University, the UNF Financing Corporation, and other entities requiring periodic reporting. Support rating agency reporting and collaborate with UNF administration on long-term debt reporting. Oversee accounting and reporting for long-term debt, capital and operating leases, and installment loans. Monitor and reconcile intercompany transactions and other activities as needed. Ensure University accounting records are maintained in compliance with Federal, State, and University regulations and in accordance with GAAP and GASB standards. Lead the implementation of new GASB standards in collaboration with University stakeholders, including ITS, Budget Office, and other campus units. Serve as a key resource for campus departments on diverse accounting and reporting issues. Process various accounting entries related to state funds and review and approve journal transfers. Oversee the maintenance of the Ledger Code and collaborate with Financial Systems and the Budget Office on the Chart of Accounts. Systems, Reporting, and Process Improvement
Collaborate with the Budget Office and Institutional Research on reporting needs and data coordination. Assist the Controllers Office with Workday reporting and support Workday upgrade reviews and testing. Contribute to the design, implementation, and enhancement of accounting systems, procedures, and internal controls. Leadership and Supervision
Train, supervise, and serve as the backup for two General Accounting staff members and a student assistant (OPS, FWS, or intern). Provide leadership support to the Associate/Assistant Controller, including performing duties during period close activities. Represent the Controllers Office on University committees and accreditation reporting. Other Responsibilities
Assist in achieving the objectives and goals of the Controllers Office and the General Accounting area. Support special projects as assigned by the Associate/Assistant Controller or Controller. Performs other duties as assigned. Marginal and Supervisory Details
Responds to University community’s requests for assistance with problems and questions related to accounting. Senior Accountant/Accountant and students/OPS employees; supervision as indicated by position level. Little daily supervision is required; communicate with the supervisor and report any serious problems or needs for assistance. Role and Contact
Daily contact with staff and administrators; represents the department on University committees; interacts with external auditors and other SUS employees. Monetary responsibility includes leading the preparation of the University’s financial statement and monitoring the general ledger. Interpret and communicate fiscal policies of the Federal Government, State of Florida, BOG, GASB, and the University; assist in policy development related to fiscal matters within the Controller’s office.
