Team Financial Audit is responsible for performing the audit of the State of Washington\'s ACFR - the second largest annual audit the State Auditor\'s Office performs. We also conduct numerous other financial and accountability audits as well as fraud and whistleblower investigations for state agencies.
Responsibilities
Accountability Audits: evaluate whether a state agency has adhered to applicable state laws, rules and its own policies and procedures. The process includes auditing records to ensure public funds are accounted for and internal controls are in place to protect public resources from misappropriating and misuse. Annual Comprehensive Financial Report: perform an independent audit of the State of Washington\'s ACFR in accordance with Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards. Financial Statement Audits: contract with institutions of higher education and state agencies to provide financial opinions under Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards. We contract with several state agencies.
Duties and Levels
Assistant State Auditor 1 (in-training): first level for staff with little audit experience. The Office provides training to assist new auditors in gaining skills. Most work is completed in the field at the governmental entity, with teams. Assistant State Auditor 2 (in-training): second level. Auditors build upon experience and may be assigned opportunities to plan and conduct audits under supervision. Assistant State Auditor 3 (journey level): planning and conducting risk-based financial & legal compliance audits of state agencies and local governments. May perform special investigations and provide mentoring to in-training staff.
Qualifications
Education and years of experience combined with demonstrated competencies determine ASA placement. Job Qualification Requirements: relevant experience includes accounting, auditing, finance, banking, or financial investigations.
Assistant State Auditor 1: bachelor\'s degree with three college-level accounting courses; or 4 years of business or relevant experience with at least 1 year in accounting/auditing; or any equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Assistant State Auditor 2: bachelor\'s degree with three accounting courses and one year of relevant experience (government audit experience preferred); or 5 years total experience with at least 2 years in accounting/auditing (government audit experience preferred); or any equivalent combination. Assistant State Auditor 3: bachelor\'s degree with at least three accounting courses and two years of relevant experience (government audit experience preferred); or total experience of 6 years with at least 3 years in accounting/auditing (government audit experience preferred); or any equivalent combination.
