Salary Range: $37,621-$54,078
Salary Grade: NC05-NC07
All hires are eligible for a $3,000 Sign on Bonus. Additionally, positions are eligible for employee referral bonus program ($1,000).
We are seeking full-time employees to join our team as Correctional Officers and are pleased to announce the new Step Pay Plan approved by the NC Legislature. This pay-plan offers competitive starting salaries and guaranteed annual increases based on each year of experience as a North Carolina Correctional Officer. Those with prior NC Correctional Officer experience can return to employment with full credit in the pay plan for each year of experience as well.
We recruit for Correctional Officer I, II, and III levels statewide within our agency.
Officer Levels and Custody
Correctional Officer I: Minimum – Offenders require a minimum level of oversight; may enter/exit cells without permission during certain times.
Correctional Officer II: Medium – Offenders require more supervision than Minimum facilities but less than Close facilities.
Correctional Officer III: Close – Offenders always require close supervision; movement is heavily controlled.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities / Management Preferences
Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form.

Requirements
Active Driver's License.

Responsibilities
Ensure the care, custody, and control of offenders.
Tour assigned areas; observe offender activity in person and on monitors.
Identify offenders needing safety or security measures; take appropriate actions.
Perform general security duties to prevent escape, disorder, rule infractions, and harm to offenders, visitors, and staff.
Search offenders, visitors, cells, and other areas for weapons and contraband.
Monitor and regulate offender and staff movement.
Maintain and record offender counts, cell assignments, and other pertinent information.
Escort offenders within and outside the institution; use and maintain keys and equipment.
Supervise offender work details; note that specific duties vary by post-assignment.
Personal Appearance
Employees must adhere to an appearance and grooming standard and be in compliance with policy.
Work Schedule
This is a full-time position. Employees must be able to work any shift including rotating, fixed, or split shifts. Shifts may include days, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime as required.
Minimum Education And Experience
Correctional Officer I: High School diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Correctional Officer II: High School diploma or GED and one year of experience as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Correctional Officer III: High School diploma or GED and two years of experience as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications: Must be eligible for certification by the NC Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
