About Us NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 19,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving the lives and property of its citizens through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry. $37,621.00/yr - $54,078.00/yr All hires are eligible for a

$3,000 Sign-on Bonus . Positions are eligible for employee referral bonus program ( $1,000 ). Responsibilities

Ensure the care, custody, and control of offenders. Tour assigned areas and observe offender activity in person and on monitors. Identify offenders who have behavioral, medical, or other problems and implement appropriate safety and security measures. Perform general security duties to prevent escape, disorder, rule infractions, and harm to offenders, visitors, and staff. Search offenders, visitors, cells, and other areas for weapons and contraband. Monitor and regulate offender and staff movement; maintain and record offender counts and cell assignments. Escort offenders within and outside the institution; use and maintain keys and other equipment; supervise offender work details. Specific security duties vary by post-assignment. Qualifications and Requirements

Active Driver's License. Education and experience: see applicable requirements for Correctional Officer I, II, and III (high school diploma or GED; additional experience required for higher levels; see details below). Minimum Education and Experience details may be satisfied via an equivalent combination of education and experience per the agency guidelines. Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission. Education and Experience Details

Correctional Officer I: High School diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience. Correctional Officer II: High School diploma or GED and one year of experience as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Correctional Officer III: High School diploma or GED and two years of experience as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Note: Some positions may require specific qualifications or prior experience; refer to the official vacancy posting for details. Work Schedule and Appearance

This is a full-time position with shifts including rotating, fixed, or split shifts. Some shifts may include days, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime. Employees must adhere to appearance and grooming standards. Additional Information
