Overview The Office of Specialized Services seeks an exceptional School Nurse to provide skilled nursing care and management of the special needs of students as well as medication administration for the Compensatory Services Program. Routine emergency care is provided for students and staff. If necessary, students are referred to their primary healthcare provider for an evaluation. For students with complex medical needs, the school nurse may act as a liaison for the program, school, home, and outside medical facilities. The nurse promotes student wellness and assists in maintaining a healthy program environment.

The Compensatory Services Program will run throughout the end of the school year, every Saturday (excluding holiday/vacation weeks), from 9:00 AM -12:00 PM at the Trotter K-6.

Responsibilities

Provides medical care to students.

Provides emergency medical care to staff as needed.

Administers and/or supervises the administration of prescription medication to students.

Establishes and maintains appropriate record-keeping and reporting formats and procedures.

Conducts formal and/or informal training for staff as appropriate as determined by student medical needs.

Qualifications Required

Current employment as a School Nurse in Boston Public Schools

Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Massachusetts license as a Registered Nurse.

MA State Dept. of Education School Nurse License (All Levels).

CPR & First Aid Certification.

Ability to meet the BPS Standards of Effective Practice as outlined above.

Experience working with children and adolescents in a public school/agency/human services setting.

Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.

Qualification-Preferred

Experience in: support services in a school setting; liaison and case management; high-risk, multi-problem children and adolescents.

COMPENSATION Hourly rate; BTU rate depending on specific site schedule.
