Overview
The University of Notre Dame is hiring for multiple on-call/temporary positions in the Campus Dining department within the Operations, Events, and Safety (UOES) division. The UOES division oversees event management, hospitality, and customer service functions, while supporting student life, academic initiatives, research activities, and annual milestone celebrations. The Dining Service Associate (DSA) is a front-of-house position focused on ensuring diners feel welcome by providing a warm, friendly atmosphere and being responsive to customers’ needs. The Culinary Service Associate (CSA) is a back-of-house position focused on cleaning and kitchen-related tasks, food preparation, and supporting dish room operations. The Monitor attends to guests, verifies eligibility for meal service, and helps maintain a safe and orderly dining environment. Pay Rate: $17.50/hr.
Key Responsibilities
Provide friendly and efficient customer service to students, faculty, staff, and guests in a high-volume dining hall environment (DSA).
Serve food items efficiently with appropriate portion sizes and appealing presentation (DSA).
Set up serving lines, restock food items, and ensure stations are clean and well-presented (DSA).
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in dining areas (DSA).
Assist with basic food preparation tasks as directed (DSA).
Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures, including hygiene, glove usage, and temperature monitoring (DSA).
Assist with inventory management by receiving deliveries, stocking shelves, and organizing storage areas (DSA).
Maintain cleanliness and visual appeal of serving lines, food displays, and condiment stations (CSA).
Assist with basic food preparation tasks such as washing and cutting vegetables, portioning ingredients, and assembling simple items (CSA).
Monitor and replenish food items on serving lines, ensuring a continuous supply (CSA).
Operate and maintain basic kitchen equipment safely (CSA).
Clean and sanitize workstations, serving utensils, and equipment (CSA).
Assist with dishwashing duties and proper storage of clean dishware (CSA).
Support inventory management by receiving, rotating, and storing food and supplies (CSA).
Greet and welcome guests, verify meal plans and IDs, and maintain entry protocols (Monitor).
Monitor dining room activity to maintain a safe, clean, and orderly environment; address spills, hazards, or disruptions (Monitor).
Assist patrons with inquiries and direct them to appropriate stations (Monitor).
Ensure compliance with dining hall policies and assist with general cleanliness (Monitor).
Report equipment malfunctions or significant incidents to dining hall management (Monitor).
Qualifications
Capable of managing time effectively with minimal supervision.
Positive, respectful, and committed to the schedule you create.
Excellent communication and listening skills.
Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 6 hours).
Ability to move around the café to attend to guest needs.
Ability to lift and move equipment, supplies, and other objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
Ability to position self to move items weighing up to 25 pounds to/from shelves and cabinets.
Follow food safety procedures for handling, storing, and serving food products.
