Overview
Nurse Practitioner Diabetes Pediatric Program – Part Time The UCSF Pediatric Diabetes Program is a robust interdisciplinary research and clinical practice. Our practice is a multi-disciplinary integrated clinic that serves a broad range of patients of diverse backgrounds. The NP contributes to clinical care, clinical research, and pediatric diabetes projects to support UCSF Pediatric Diabetes Program staff, including global health projects. The role includes standard clinic visits, review of diabetes data, insulin and medication adjustments, diabetes education, case management, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. The NP will join the current CDE pool and share responsibilities, including education of patients and families, and group sessions on insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors, and other diabetes devices. The NP may participate in immunotherapy trials and diabetes risk screening activities planned by the UCSF research team. Final salary and offer components are subject to UC policy and internal equity considerations. Location: San Francisco, CA (Mission Bay). Work style: Fully On-Site. Shift: Variable. Percentage: 50%. Perform standard clinic visits for pediatric diabetes patients with appropriate review of systems and physical examination. Review diabetes data (e.g., glucose data, pump data) and adjust insulin regimens and other diabetes medications as needed, with or without physician supervision. Provide diabetes education in an outpatient pediatric diabetes practice and assist with case management and ongoing diabetes education and training. Conduct direct patient assessments, including health, developmental, and psychosocial aspects for patients and research subjects. Assist in clinical research and participate in NIH/other clinical trials related to pediatric diabetes, including recruitment and ongoing management during study participation. Train patients and families in the use of insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors, and other diabetes devices; support use of investigational diabetes technology devices. Review insulin pump and glucose downloads, optimize metabolic control, and coordinate care with a multidisciplinary team (MDs, NPs, nurses, dietitians, social workers, psychologists, school nurses, and community liaisons). Contribute to Type 1 diabetes clinical research efforts and participate in screening activities for diabetes risk and prevention trials (e.g., events at diabetes walks, camps, and community events). Collaborate with the Department and participate in EOD responsibilities as part of the clinical team. Qualifications
Graduation from a California Board of Registered Nursing recognized Nurse Practitioner Program with a master’s or doctoral degree aligned with the patient population and clinical role. Master's degree with a combination of relevant diabetes clinical experience and qualifications such as:
Critical analysis, problem-solving skills and collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team Advanced physical and psychosocial assessment skills for patients and families across developmental levels
One (1) year experience with fully automated insulin delivery systems in pediatric patients Five (5) years of clinical experience in Pediatric Diabetes Experience with early adoption of pump therapy management and education of pediatric patients Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) or willingness to obtain Certification within 6 months of employment Preferred Qualifications
Five (5) years of clinical experience in Pediatric Diabetes, and additional experience in general endocrine One (1) year experience with automated insulin delivery systems Flexibility to orient and work at outreach locations Knowledge of insulin pump downloads, Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs), and automated insulin delivery systems (AID) Ability to document in real-time within EMR Proficiency with diabetes technology devices and staying current with new diabetes technology developments and research devices Licensure and Certifications
