Position: Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Overview Performs routine and some special procedure imaging. Prepares patient for procedures. Assists radiologists when needed. Prepares, operates and cares for the equipment being used. Develops/processes film/CDs when needed. Adheres to established radiology standards of care and radiation protection principles to minimize exposure to patient, self and others. Assumes responsibility for assigned area and duties. Adheres to hospital-wide customer service programs.

Performs diagnostic and some special procedure medical radiographic images utilizing CT assistance. Exercises professional judgment in performance of procedures.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors

Prepares and positions patients correctly for specific examinations, observing protocol requirements and proper documentation on images and body part questionnaires

Assumes responsibility for designated areas and/or procedures and produces quality images, reviewing completed exams for accuracy and completeness

Assists physicians during procedures as necessary

Performs equipment quality assurance and calibrations as needed; orders supplies

May be required to work in case of emergency procedures or when situations arise in the department; on-call, holiday, overtime and/or day, evening and overnight shift coverage

Maintains cleanliness of all work areas, equipment and accessories; reports malfunctioning equipment

Processes films or prints CDs as needed

Performs routine office duties such as answering phones, reviewing previous reports/films, documenting information on patients’ requests, and using Meditech or hospital RIS and PACs

Notifies transport when patients are ready to be picked up or returned to floors

Shows radiologist films and communicates reports to the attending physician as necessary

May be assigned as an instructor or preceptor

Maintains professional and courteous conduct in line with hospital behavioral standards

Introduces self and educates patients or family members regarding the examination

Provides care appropriate to age, physical and psychosocial needs of patient populations including neonate/newborn, pediatric/adolescent, adult and geriatric groups

Performs other related duties as required and participates in staff meetings and in-services

Duties and hours may change according to department or hospital needs

Education & Experience Requirements

High School Diploma/GED required

Graduate of an allied health education and accredited radiography school or equivalent (Nuclear Medicine Technologist)

NY State DOH Licensure required

ARRT - NMTCB required

BLS certified through the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire

Physical/Mental Demands, Requirements & Work Environment

Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods

Occasional movement within the department to access patients and paperwork

Constant use of computer and imaging systems

Frequent interaction with patients regarding financial inquiries; ability to convey accurate information

Observe and inspect colleagues and patients in the department

Frequent movement and positioning of patients for exams

Exposure to chemicals; SDS information available via the hospital intranet and switchboard

Compensation & Benefits Hourly Rate:

$48.90-$73.36 per hour

Sign-on Bonus:
