Position Summary Performs routine and special procedure imaging, diagnostic and medical sonograms. Prepares patient for procedures. Assists radiologists when needed and cares for equipment. Develops and processes films, adheres to radiology standards of care, obtains continuing education, and assumes responsibility for assigned duties. Provides patient care and performs quality assurance.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors
Performs all other related duties as assigned
Prepares and positions patients correctly for specific examinations, observing protocol requirements and documenting images and body part questionnaires
Assumes responsibility for designated areas and procedures to produce good technical images
Assists physicians during procedures as necessary
Performs equipment quality assurance, calibrations, and orders supplies
Will be required to work in case of emergency procedures or when situations arise in the department; will be needed to work on call, holidays, overtime, or day, evening and overnight shift coverage to help maintain adequate and safe coverage for the department
Maintains cleanliness of all work areas, equipment and accessories and reports malfunctioning equipment to Bio Med and/or supervisor
Processes films or prints pictures when needed
Performs routine office duties, such as answering phones, checking previous reports, and documenting information on patients’ requests, Meditech or hospital system and PACS digital x-ray system
Notifies transport when patients are ready to be picked up or returned to floors
Shows radiologist all films and calls reports to the attending physician and documents communication if necessary
May be assigned as an instructor or preceptor
Will treat all people/staff in a professional and courteous manner, upholding the hospital’s behavioral standards
Will introduce themself and educate the patient and/or family member regarding the examination that is ordered
Should be knowledgeable and skillful in providing care based on age, physical and psychosocial stature of patient populations; neonate/newborn, pediatric/adolescent, adults and geriatric groups
Performs all other related duties as assigned
Duties and hours may change according to the needs of the department or hospital
Education & Experience Requirements
High school Diploma/GED required
Satisfactory completion of a certified ultrasound program or Limited Permit/certificate (ARDMS eligibility after 1 year from graduation and 1000 clinical hours)
Experience preferred; must meet continuing education requirements to maintain certification
ARDMS required for ACR accreditation compliance after January 1, 2019
BCLS (CPR) certification preferred
BLS certification through the American Heart Association required or must be completed within 90 days of hire
Core Competencies Team work, adaptability, communication skills, problem‑solving skills, planning and organizing, attention to detail, judgment and decision‑making skills, stress tolerance.
Physical/Mental Demands & Work Environment
Must be able to remain in stationary position 50% of the time
Occasionally move to access patients and paperwork
Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery constantly
Communicate with patients who have questions about bills or financial obligations and provide accurate information
Observe and inspect employees and patients in the department
Frequently move and position patients for exams
May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks; all hazardous chemicals are listed in the hospital’s SDS database and can be accessed through the hospital Intranet and the SDS Access portal
