Overview
Information Technology Specialist position with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. The role involves coordinating IT acquisitions, project progress, and technical guidance on a variety of IT issues, with responsibilities spanning network design, maintenance, and support, as well as liaison with agency staff and the public for web-hosting platform operations and support. Responsibilities
Review, prepare, and submit IT acquisitions/purchases for approval to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and policies. Initiate and monitor IT projects to maintain a running inventory of all projects and purchases. Participate on teams responsible for implementing IT system changes and provide technical guidance to senior management. Serve as primary liaison with agency employees and the public on matters related to web-hosting platform operations and support. Assist in the design and preparation of operations routines and computer programs for electronic data processing, utilizing current software and operating systems. Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of multi-network environments (LAN/MAN/WAN), network services, security, data integrity, performance monitoring, and user support. Perform related duties as required under supervision within a state department, agency, data center, institution, or state college setting. Requirements
Education : Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's degree in Computer Science or Computer/Information Technology. Experience : One (1) year of experience in design and preparation of programs for electronic data processing using current operating systems, modification of systems software and multiprogramming technology, development/maintenance/installation of application programs, or technical support in a direct access device environment with multi-network LAN/MAN/WAN experience. Notes: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science may substitute for one year of experience. A general Bachelor's degree may substitute for the Associate's degree. Substitutions on education/experience follow the state guidelines described in the original posting. License : A driver's license valid in New Jersey is required only if operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform duties. Preferred Skill Set
Ability to evaluate proposals for IT product or service acquisitions and understand project management principles. Ability to communicate complex issues to senior management and participate in DEP IT CORE Team meetings.
