This position performs all duties independently with oversight by the Associate Dean of Students. The main responsibilities include supporting and advising veterans, veteran dependents, and those in active military duty in determining eligibility, admission, financial aid, and providing programming to support these students in their transition to the university environment. Key Responsibilities

Lead oversight of the VETS department - Administration and Supervision of Veterans Affairs – 35%

Create mission, objectives, goals, and learning outcomes. Document through annual and semiannual reporting. Create measurements and methods. Work with a budget analyst to create a budget plan and reconcile costs, which includes a working knowledge of the current finance system, office expenses, revenue, donations and technical updates and advancements. All financial reporting and travel and expense reports. Oversee Department of Veteran Affairs tuition and fee and Department of Defense tuition assistance payments to the university. Assist students with monthly VA payments including troubleshooting, inquiries for errors in payments and process issues including back logs on workload and approving emergency loans to cover educational expenses. Admissions, Academics and Benefits for Veterans and Veteran Dependents – 35%

Advise Veterans and eligible dependents and spouses of veterans on the various Veterans benefits, programs, fee waivers and community and campus services and resources. Development and implementation of the VA files and processes, create and maintain forms to meet current regulations, file management, and benefit processing, institutional reporting and training and managing personnel and organizational processes. Submission of electronic enrollment certifications to the Department of Veteran Affairs and Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Services which includes, tuition and fee invoicing according to CSU directive and VA stated maximums, eligibility tiers, level and status through the Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense software and web portals. Monitor registration activity and tuition changes. Report changes via electronic VA program within the 30-day reporting cycle. Run Census and end of the term reports to verify course completion. Report punitive, non-punitive and incomplete grades to the VA with last dates of attendance and use professional judgment to approve mitigating circumstances. Provide approval for concurrent and supplement enrollment based on program requirements and articulation agreements for individual students. Office Coordination related to VETS Advising – 25%

Work with CSU and off-campus partners to relate information related to VETS Order office supplies and computer supplies. Develop fund raising programs and grant writing for VETS. Respond to office emails and create groups, forums, blogs, to facilitate communication and a sustainable community. Other Duties as Assigned – 5%

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Knowledge of practices, procedures and activities of the program; general knowledge of organizational and program management; research and interview techniques; and the principles of individual and group behavior. Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect, analyze and evaluate data; present findings; advise students individually and in groups; recognize multicultural and diverse value systems; establish cooperative relationships with faculty, administrators, and external partners; and rapidly acquire broad knowledge of campus operations. Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

Two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or a related field; demonstrated competence and potential for growth. A master’s degree in a job-related field may substitute for one year of experience. Education:

Graduation from a four-year college or university in behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a related field. Additional specialized experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. Preferred Qualifications

Two years of professional experience in veteran programming, active-duty service, admissions, financial aid, or advising; capable of growth. Hold a Class C driver’s license. Application Procedure
