Position Purpose

The Blade Operator performs a variety of physical tasks including operating heavy equipment and machinery as defined by each job/project.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform all duties and responsibilities with Sunland's Core Values at the forefront.
• Work quickly, productively and safely to meet production goals as outlined by the Foreman, Superintendent and/or Production Manager.
• Follow directions of the Foreman and/or Superintendent regarding daily production schedule and activities.
• Operate heavy equipment; specifically Cat equipment.
• Advocate for safety and follow safety policies and procedures.
• Actively participate in job-site and safety meetings and all Company training.
• Collaborate with Foreman or Crew Leader to ensure the job-site is safe and traffic is controlled prior to starting work.
• Maintain strong communication with the paver operator, truck drivers and general laborers.
• If driving a commercial motor vehicle, conduct pre/post trip inspections in compliance with laws.
• May operate trucks to transport equipment to and from production sites and assist in maintenance of equipment.
• Inspect, clean and maintain equipment and machinery.
• Report problems and malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or shop personnel.
• May set up and tear down equipment.
• Maintain a clean job site and secure tools/equipment daily.
• Understand material handling and storage in compliance with SDS sheets.
• Coordinate with contractors, sub-contractors and vendors to complete the job.
• Serve as front-line Company representative and provide excellent service to customers and the public.
• Use equipment and hand tools such as rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, etc.
• Perform other general laborer duties as needed.
• Any other duties assigned. Duties may change with or without notice.

Safety

• This position is safety-sensitive and subject to the company's drug and alcohol policy and OSHA regulations.
• All employees must wear appropriate PPE.
• Serves as a safety ambassador by enforcing safe practices and identifying hazards.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Work at professional construction sites; able to communicate verbally and read materials; lift up to 50 pounds; climb stairs/ladders; bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and work in various weather conditions.
• Work on project sites and operate vehicles, trailers, machinery and tools following safety guidelines.
• Outdoor work in all weather; exposure to chemicals, dust, noise, and moving equipment.

Position Type / Hours

• Full-time position. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
• Willingness to travel to all job sites as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Work Experience and Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Six months to one year related experience preferred.
• Ability to speak, read and write English preferred.

Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations

• Valid driver’s license with a clean motor-vehicle record. CDL license is preferred and may be required for some roles.
• Pre-employment drug screen and background check required.
