UHY-US is hiring: Accounting Consultant in Houston

Overview

As a Senior Accounting Consultant, you will provide hands-on support in financial reporting, close process management, and analysis related to energy generation and storage operations. This is a hybrid project role requiring both technical precision and business acumen to connect financial results with operational outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage general ledger accounting for generation and storage operations within ERCOT.
• Oversee month-end and quarter-end closes, ensuring timely and GAAP-compliant financial results.
• Prepare and analyze financial statements, account reconciliations, and variance reports.
• Partner cross-functionally with operations, dispatch, and regulatory teams to align accounting results with ERCOT market activity.
• Support audit preparation and respond to external auditor requests.
• Drive process automation and reporting efficiency through ERP and data systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar).
• Provide accounting insights related to market settlements, ancillary services revenue, and power trading results.

Preferred Background

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CPA-track preferred.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Direct exposure to ERCOT markets, QSE operations, or merchant power/trading accounting.
• Strong grasp of GAAP, reconciliation, and financial reporting processes.
• ERP experience (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or Workday).
• Excellent analytical and communication skills; ability to translate technical market data into financial insights.
• Prior experience in power generation, renewables, utilities, or oil & gas is a strong plus.
